Exporting Slice Causes Unexpected Error

I'm trying unsuccessfully to use current Infinity Designer 1.10.4 on new 14" Macbook Pro M1 Max with Monterey v12.0.1 32 GB RAM 2 TB SSD for the simple task of cropping away the unused portion of a pdf scan of a small card such as drivers license or covid vaccination card.  Gives repeatable error : "An error occurred while exporting to: ..... slice1.pdf'.  Error occurs with or without hardware acceleration for metal being on. To recreate: 1) Start new file, inputting attached file "sample scan clipping error cropping with slice" or similar pdf scan.sample scan clipping error cropping with slice.pdf 2) Choose Export Persona, Slice Tool. 3) Put a box around the scanned sample text sticky note you wish to crop to 4) Choose pdf for export under the slice 1 menu on the right.  4) Choose to export slice1.pdf to the desktop.  Gives unexpected error as shown in attached screenshot.  I think I recall being able to do this clipping operation successfully on my old 2010 Macbook Pro.  Is there a better way to crop away unneeded parts of a .pdf?  I wish there was a simple "Crop to a selection box" command.  Is there a workaround?  Thanks, JG

Weird, first time I exported I had no warning. No Slice PDF either. Second time I export I go the same warning/notice.

I tried with a home made PDF and had no problem. So I suspect the file ( format PDF 1.4 is ) is the problem. When I did a Get Info on the PDF there was no Creator nor what encoding software was used. Is there only the one PDF format for export from the Scanner?

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Interestingly enough I get no warning and no PDF even after repeated tries. I will likely need to get this logged with our developers for further investigation. Which scanning software was used to create the original PDF?

@Callum

Errgh... been a while, I think it was done here with the standard Image Capture from Mac OS. I used an HP all in one scanner/printer.

The submitted pdf file that causes the error was generated by scanning with the Brother iPrint&scan app from my Brother MFC-J945DW printer.  For a workaround, I am able to crop the submitted pdf without any problem using PDF Expert on my new 2021 Macbook Pro.  I also went back and verified that I am able to crop the same pdf successfully using CS6 Photoshop on my old mid-2010 Macbook Pro.  Another interesting find was that if I scan a similar sticky note from my older Brother MFC-8910DW printer, I'm able to output a cropped slice of it with Affinty Designer with no problem.  The pdf's from both printer/scanners show as pdf version 1.4 in getinfo.  Hopefully someone at Affinity will be able to trap the error in a debugger and fix the problem in a future release.  Meanwhile I can use PDF Expert when I need to crop pdfs from my Brother MFC-J945DW printer. Thanks.
