Text Frame Baseline suggestion

Recommended Posts

Having come to Affinity Publisher from another well-known DTP program, I am finding my way around. I must say that the baseline grid options in the Test Frame settings are a bit confusing. May I suggest changing them as shown in the attached modified screenshot? That might help necomers!

But that implies the text frame's baseline grid will be used.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

If one sets the frame to ignore the document grid (top box) and also enables the text frame grid (bottom box), won't it be used?

As things stand now.

If I have a Paragraph style called Use Baseline Grid assigned to a paragraph and that is in a text frame with no baseline grid the Document Grid will be used. If I change the Text Frame to use its baseline grid that baseline grid will be used.

I have two text styles Use Baseline Grid and No Grid. I can override the Use Baseline Grid style to not use it in the Frame and still use it from the document. I can override it to use in neither. I cannot use it to cause the No Grid style to use any grid.

Use the Text Frame's Grid:

Use the Document's grid:

Use no grid at all:

I think you're saying, @Old Bruce, that it's even more complex than the OP (or I) may have realized, given that there are at least 3 sources for the "use baseline grid" setting, which further confuses things.

Yes, it will, but as the dialogue looks at the moment it's not clear. One checkbox says 'Ignore' and another says 'Use'. OK once you know but for a newbie? Confusing. Maybe the second one could even better be labelled 'Use Local Baseline Grid'
