Affinity Publisher crashing within seconds of opening files

Recommended Posts

Good evening,

I was last using Affinity Publisher on Thursday evening. It was working fine.

Today I have launched the software and every time I open a file it crashes back to the Windows home screen.

I have tried re-installing it, reverting to an older version (these all failed to open the file because the file contains features in a newer version), and I have tried the performance settings. I've attached the most recent 'report' file, which I've no idea how to open or decipher, but hopefully someone here can!

Any help gratefully received.

Kind regards,

Craig

Hi and welcome!

Both times (both dump files indicate) that it crashes in libraster.dll, which could be GPU driver related here. - Is the hardware acceleration setting enabled under your "Affinity Designer > Preferences > Performance settings" ? - If yes you can try what happens if you disable OpenCL hardware acceleration & "warp" etc., aka trying what happens when you do not use the GPU at all here.

Your dumps do look like this ...

Thanks for the response.

’Hardware acceleration’ is unticked.

In the renderer box I have the option for AMd Radeon R5 Graphics or Warp. But presumably as the hardware acceleration box is unticked the GPU isn’t being used?

I don't use the Affinity apps on Windows computers, but you can try the change first to the "warp" setup before unticking the hardware accerlearation, in order to see if it makes any difference then. - Some Affinity Windows user might can tell you better here!

It could be something to do with an ICC profile - have you recently profiled your display or started using a new one ?

Hi Paul, Apologies but I’m not techy enough to understand this. To my knowledge though, I haven’t.

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately, it crashes for all files that I open whether they have colour in or not.

If I start a new document it is fine. I’ll check later if I then add anything to the blank page if it crashes.

many thanks

display the preflight panel and select the 'never' button

See the thread title, the OP talks about Designer!

Sorry, that’s an error - this is a Publisher issue.

The preflight panel does not allow me to select ‘Never’ - it’s greyed out.

apologies again - I meant publisher.
