RainerH Posted December 7, 2021 Share Posted December 7, 2021 Hello together, i hope somebody can help me: I need to create SVG-Drawings for technical info and it's very helpful to use artboards in designer so I can store several drawings in one file. If I then export the artboards to SVG there's a thin border in my CMS' media box and after publishing in the presentaion mode. It appears not, when I open the SVG in Chrome but in the media box of the CMS I want to use the SVGs and then in the published data. If I draw in designe without using artboards the thin border doesn't appear in the CMS' media box and in the publication not too. Please have a look to the attached screenshot of my CMS' media box. On the left side you can see the SVG with artboard exportet and importet ito the media box (yellow marked boarder) and on the right side exportet from a designer file without artboards used. ((the draker grey background ist the background / canvas of my media box in the CMS. After publishing that doesn't appear, but the thin yellow marked border appears.)) example with artboard.svg example without artboard.svg christinavv 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
RainerH Posted December 7, 2021 Author Share Posted December 7, 2021 when I compare the two SVGs in Notepad++ there are differences with artboard <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?><!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd"><svg width="100%" height="100%" viewBox="0 0 1588 2246" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xml:space="preserve" xmlns:serif="http://www.serif.com/" style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:2;"><rect id="ArtBoard1" x="0" y="0" width="1587.4" height="2245.04" style="fill:none;"/><g id="ArtBoard11" serif:id="ArtBoard1"><rect x="45.989" y="135.717" width="1084.47" height="806.692" style="fill:#ebebeb;"/><ellipse cx="1379.69" cy="2038.29" rx="178.208" ry="173.769" style="fill:#ebebeb;"/><ellipse cx="1492.58" cy="115.423" rx="65.322" ry="74.835" style="fill:#ebebeb;"/><ellipse cx="126.531" cy="2019.27" rx="80.542" ry="192.794" style="fill:#ebebeb;"/></g></svg> without artboard <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?><!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd"><svg width="100%" height="100%" viewBox="0 0 1588 2246" version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xml:space="preserve" xmlns:serif="http://www.serif.com/" style="fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;stroke-linejoin:round;stroke-miterlimit:2;"><rect x="45.989" y="135.717" width="1084.47" height="806.692" style="fill:#ebebeb;"/><ellipse cx="1379.69" cy="2038.29" rx="178.208" ry="173.769" style="fill:#ebebeb;"/><ellipse cx="1492.58" cy="115.423" rx="65.322" ry="74.835" style="fill:#ebebeb;"/><ellipse cx="126.531" cy="2019.27" rx="80.542" ry="192.794" style="fill:#ebebeb;"/></svg> Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
RainerH Posted December 7, 2021 Author Share Posted December 7, 2021 If I delete the red marked Part in the SVG with artboard, then the boarder does not appear in the CMS media editor. Is ther a way to set up desinger so that this let us call it "artboard-info" is not included in the SVG. In my opinion there's no need for it. Old Bruce Posted December 7, 2021 Share Posted December 7, 2021 For that example (using only the one artboard) you can just select the artboard, delete it and choose to Keep the objects. The document size will be the artboard size and location. RainerH Posted December 8, 2021 Author Share Posted December 8, 2021 Hello Old Bruce, thank you for your reply. You're right, I did it so in the past when only one artboard is in a file. But there are Designer-Files with 10, 20 or 30 Artboards f. e. to store all Pictures of a how-to-description of the setup of a full managed mobile in one designer file. So I'm able to make changes in several or all artboards and then easily export them all in the export persona and overwrite the old files. In publisher I can then update all embedded files with only some clicks. But for the CMS I need the pictures in SVG and there the boarders are shown. In the SVG there are informations about the ArtBoard. Is there a way to setup designer so that this Information isn't includet? christinavv 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Old Bruce Posted December 8, 2021 Share Posted December 8, 2021 I don't know what your Content Management System (CMS) (it took me a while to figure out what CMS meant) needs in terms of Dimensions of the files. Does it need the Artboard dimensions for the SVG? Or is it just the shapes and their relative distances to each other? In other words are the actual dimensions of the Artboard needed in the SVG? If it is just the shapes and their relative distances to each other and not the Artboard size then you can Group the items together and Export that Group layer as a slice. Meaning is a smaller overall dimensioned SVG acceptable or is the Artboard size critical. Geddy Posted January 18, 2022 Share Posted January 18, 2022 Hi RainerH, Today I was beating my head on the same problem you have, but when making a SVG file for use in a Cricut machine. When exporting an artboard a rectangle was also included in the SVG file. However, the top edge of the rectangle cut through the center of the graphic. And the Cricut followed instructions, cut the rectangle so cutting the graphic in half. My simple graphic (a coffee cup and saucer) was merged into a single 'curve' layer in the artboard. If the 'Area' in the export window was 'artboard' or 'selected area' the rectangle was included in the SVG. The rectangle appears in the cricut software and Designer shows the rectangle layer also in the SVG file when opened. However, if I first selected the curve layer in the layers panel, then picked 'selection only' for the Area in the export window, the SVG file did not include a rectangle. It seems to be repeatable but I'll need more than one artboard to test further. I could not find a way to make a non-rectangled SVG through the Export persona. RainerH Posted January 26, 2022 Author Share Posted January 26, 2022 My idea ist to draw all Pictures of one product in one Designer-File and then export them all in one go to SVG-Files. I think that's what the artboard technology is for. When exportet to png or jpg it works fine. When exportet to svg every single svg has this border.
