Ambros Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I have a pixel layer selected. If I use (for example) the brush tool. I can draw etc But the erase brush tool does nothing. Opacity is 100%, Flow is 100%, hardness is 100% Layer is not locked. So bloody exasperating just wasted 10 minutes trying to get it to work.. How can it be that unintuitive !?? If I use the select tool and draw a box, and then hit delate.. similarly it does nothing I have removed all layers except this layer CRWillow 1 Quote
Ambros Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 OK I re-booted Affinity Photo and it now works fine. Quote

I have similar issues every now and then, if I activate my graphic tablet. Sometimes just picking a different brush and then pick the original brush again can help to avoid this kind of "hickups". Might help in your case, too, if it'd happen again. Ambros 1 Quote »There are three responses to a piece of design: yes, no, and wow. Wow is the one to aim for.« Milton Glaser (1929 - 2020)
Ambros Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 Thanks @Andy05 I'll try that if it happens again Quote
Andy Wangstad Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 I have that problem as well. Thanks for the tip - I'll give it a try. By reboot, I assume quitting the app and reopening, not rebooting my Mac. Quote
Andy Wangstad Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Did not work. Erase brush still non-functional. Any other ideas? Quote
Dan C Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Sorry to hear you're having trouble @Andy Wangstad, can you please provide a screenshot of the Affinity app with the Eraser Brush selected and your Layers Studio visible for me? Many thanks in advance! Quote
CRWillow Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 Did any one figure this out? I still have this problem off and on. Last night I had to restart three times, gave up and went to bed and it still doesn't work today. The brush has a circle outline and you can see the image through it. NotMyFault Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 On which layer do you want to delete? Maybe you have just the wrong layer active? the screenshots shows some illogic information: layer „copy“ thumbnail is empty, but active / selected layer „background“ is inactive Canvas shows something despite empty layer thumbnail -> maybe file is corrupted. the best way to check brushes incl. erase brush are working: create a new document add one pixel layer select brush tool select basic round brush of 32px width Choose color like black (not white) brush a stroke if this works, then the reason is in your other document. copy one pixel layer of your issue document, and use new from clipboard test the brush again if it works, copy all you layers and paste them into the working document test brush again if nothing helps: upload the file here, so we can inspect. That seemed odd to me, too, given that the canvas shows content even though the thumbnail for "copy" is empty but sometimes thumbnails don't show. CRWillow Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 Yes, the blank thumbnail is a pain too. Nearly every time I merge, rasterize, or copy a layer it goes blank in the thumbnail. The actual canvas image is there as you see but no thumbnail. Some times it comes back before I shut down, other times when I restart in the morning, it's very temperamental. Thanks Not My Fault, I'll try that the next time it gets fussy. Quote
