The subtract only operates on one layer at a time.  What I believe it's trying to do is to subtract the ellipse from the first line, then the first line from the second, second from the first, etc.  And it hangs.

Plus subtract likes to work on closed curves.  Your dashes are probably open.  To close these select all dashes and do an Expand Stroke.

finally to get around the first issue select all dashes and do a Merge Curves.  Then you will be subtracting the ellipse from the single merged layer and it should work.

If you need the dashes as separate layers you can do a Separate Curves at the end to get this.

Thank you for answering.

Sorry i do not get it what you mean by merge curves, if i group then i can not subtract.

I use Affinity in German language that makes it a little difficult to undestand.

Group lines with Elipse (top layer with Blend mode to Erase).

Assuming you are using Affinity Designer first, select all the dash lines & from the Layer menu select Expand Stroke. Then, also from the Layers menu select Geometry > Merge curves. Do not include the ellipse layer when you do this.

At this point you should have two items showing in the Layers panel, an "(Ellipse)" layer & a "(Curves)" layer. Make sure the ellipse layer is above the Curves layer & then do the subtraction.

i just made it.

expand stroke, merge curves and then subtract.

I did not know the merge curves which is accessible by right click, was trying to combine the layers by drag and drop in the panel, how i saw it in a video.

Thanks a lot.
