Hello,

I'm having frequently crashes with A Photo and A Publisher.
I don't use a GPU card but the intel processor.

In the maps from affinity, there are many crash reports.

Do I have to buy a GPU card? Or is the configuration not good?

Thank you

You do not need to buy a graphics card

Does it stop crashing if you switch off Hardware Acceleration in Edit > Preferences > Performace?

@herwwwig, sorry to hear you're having trouble!

I'd recommend making sure your Intel driver is full up to date, as outdated drivers can cause the app to crash.

You can download these drivers from here - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download-center/home.html

And follow these steps to perform a 'clean install' - https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/support/articles/000057389/graphics.html

Please do let me know if this helps :)

Many thanks for the further screenshots provided!

I can confirm that the Intel Driver & Support Assistant may not always be running the very latest versions of drivers, regardless of the notification here - usually they are a few weeks behind on the auto-updates compared to manual installation.

Equally, I can see you're running Windows 11, which has had known driver issues for both the Intel & AMD platforms. Therefore I suggest downloading their latest beta drivers, as we've been previously suggesting these to Win11 users to resolve crashing in Affinity, with marked success.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19387/intel-graphics-beta-windows-dch-drivers.html?wapkw=i7-9700k

We also need you to perform the 'clean install' steps (which can also be done using the third party application DDU if you find this easier than the manual intel steps) - can you please try this and let me know if this helps? :)

Many thanks for your provided file! Our team has asked if you can generate one more crash report, after editing your Affinity app config file.

Please see the below link where instructions are provided by a colleague of mine -

Please note you will need to edit the Affinity Photo beta file, not Affinity Designer retail as the link explains, which should be in the following location:

C:\Program Files\Affinity\Photo Customer Beta

Once this new crash report has been generated, please attach this here once again for me - thanks for your continued patience and understanding :)

Many thanks for providing these @herwwwig and my apologies for the delayed response here!

It appears as though Norton Security may be interfering with the Affinity application and this may be the cause of the app crashing - though this isn't 100% clear from the crash report.

I'd recommend adding the Affinity app to the 'whitelist' for Norton, or alternatively temporarily disabling/uninstalling this app, to see if it helps reduce the crashing you're seeing.

I'd also like to request a copy of your EventViewer log, as this may contain a more obvious cause for the app crashing.

1. Open Windows Run (Windows Key + R) and type the following - eventvwr
2. In the window that opens, select the Windows Logs drop-down list on the left and then Applications
3. With the Applications logs selected, navigate to the right side of the window and select Save All Events As ... and save them as .evtx (the default option).
4. Attach this saved file to your reply here.

Many thanks once again :)

Thank you for your file! I can see the following here -

This indicates that .NET is crashing on your machine, so please can you try running the .NET repair tool from the below link, then restart your PC and try colour picking in Affinity once again for me? :)

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/repair

If the app continues to crash, I'd like to check the colour profile assigned to your monitor, through Windows.

Please open Windows Run (Windows Key + R) then paste the following string and press OK:

colorcpl

In the window that opens, please select the Devices tab, then select your monitor from the dropdown list. You should find that 'use my settings for this device' is enabled, but if not please tick this option.

Now, take a screenshot of your settings and attach this here for me, this should look similar to the following:

Many thanks once again!

Unable to repair .NET

That's certainly strange, I've not seen this happen before. It may be worth running an SFC scan to try and repair Windows.

Thanks for your screenshot provided! I believe it is this colour profile causing the crash in Affinity - can you please select 'Add', then choose the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile (as shown in my screenshot) and then set this as the Default profile.

Now, restart the Affinity app and try colour picking once again - does this stop the crashing please? :)

I did it, but the crashes are still there.  😞
