catlover Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 (edited) I'm trying to record a macro. I'm getting stuck at moving a child layer to above the parent layer. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Here's the sequence: >Open JPG >Select JPG >Duplicate JPG >Layer >New >Adjustm.Layer > HSL >Saturation to -100 The Adjustm.Layer is now a child of the Parent JPG. This is according to the setting in the Asst.Options. >Move the AdjustmLayer to above the Parent layer. This is where it gets stuck. The Child layer is not selectable, see attachment. If I force the issue by : 1-select first the parent, then 2-select only the Child layer (which is now selectable), I get another message, "move" not possible, see attachment. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here, but what ? I could set the Asst.Options to place the child above, but further down the line that would get me into trouble all over again. Any input is welcome, thanks in advance. C.L. Edited November 24, 2021 by catlover Typo in Topic Header, should be v.1.10.4 Quote
David in Яuislip Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Once you have the child selected, try Arrange/Move Outside rather than moving with the cursor R C-R 1 Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10

I like macros but they can be a bit of a challenge. In times like these I just bounce off the walls until it works or it doesn't then I give up. Maybe version 2 will introduce Javascript....:-) Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10
catlover Posted November 25, 2021 Author Posted November 25, 2021 Thanks, guys. I tried David's suggestion, got it done via the menu toolbar, that works. Then to RC-R's comment : although I'm quite a novice as far as macros are concerned, it seems to me that a comprehensive function list won't go amiss. And especially : which tool to use, the side toolbar icons or the menu toolbar ??? I've now tried to perform quite a number of actions, and sometimes even the simplest one, like changeing line color is impossible. One can get it done by a workaround, but really : should that be necessary ? Quote

I am not entirely sure what you mean by "side toolbar icons" but I think as a general rule, if something appears on a menu, using that when recording a macro is probably the best bet.
