I am newb with Affinity, and generally only want to do simple edits where a subject is not properly lit.

So the speed of subject selection is important, and I wonder if people here think that in practice this one click subject selection in Pixelmator Pro is much faster than Affinity Photo.

My workflow is that photos go into Photos.app, and either at the time of downloading the photos, or after I have favorited some photos, I may want to edit the photo. And then drop into Affinity from Photos extension and then light up the subject a little better say. On the workflow front, I do not have a good way of figuring out what to do with my RAW photos - vary of moving Raw into Photos.app but may be that is the right way to do. May be I should ask that question separately here as experts here likely shoot in Raw.

Comments from Affinity photo experts would be very welcome about the speed of subject selection - given that Pixelmator one touch will also likely require some brush touchups.

Thank you!

I am not entirely sure about what you mean but in my limited experience with Pixelmator Pro's ML features like automatic subject selection, they are somewhat hit or miss -- sometimes it works well & other times not.

So it isn't really about how fast it works but how well it works. So all I can suggest is to try it on the kind of photos you work with most often & see if you like the results.

I was asking if it is faster to select subjects using Pixelmator (As compared to Affinity Photo).

I understand that you are saying that subject selection is somewhat hit or miss in Pixelmator. And that was my experience too the one time that I tried. And it is too hard to learn two interfaces at the same time, let alone one for me. So I guess I will stick with Affinity and try to use Affinity more often - every time that I feel a photo is good and may need some adjusting.

What I am saying is that ML (machine learning) assisted identification & selection of subjects (like people in a photo) is somewhat hit or miss.
