katho3d Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Hello, I have a problem opening Adobe Illustrator files exported from Autodesk 3ds max. If I try to open such a file, its just an empty document. Opening the file with Illustrator works perfectly. I have attached a testfile. Thanks in advance! Test.zip Quote
Staff DWright Posted November 23, 2021 Staff Posted November 23, 2021 Can you please confirm the export setting that you are using in Autodesk 3ds max when creating the .ai file Quote
Staff MEB Posted November 23, 2021 Staff Posted November 23, 2021 Hi @katho3d,Affinity apps are only able to read the contents of the PDF stream contained in the Ai file. For this to happen the file must be saved with "Create PDF compatible file" checked in Illustrator otherwise we can't import anything. 3D Studio Max isn't able to include the PDF stream in the Ai file (as far as I know) thus we cannot import it since the rest of the Ai file data is proprietary. Are you able to export the data in another vector format? PDF, SVG, EPS? Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Would it be possible to add an importer for DXFs to Affinity Designer? Illustrator has this option. I really want to switch fully to Designer Quote

This is an often desired feature, but nothing happened so far in this direction?! Would it be possible to print your document from 3DS Max to a PDF printer driver? Thanks for the hint with the PDF printer, but unfortunately in 3ds max there is no print feature, its a 3d software Quote
YuconCarneleous Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 I agree, I just bought a cnc and expected to find the dxf exporter in this program. So I was shocked to find that it doesn't support this, what a bummer. I hope they will change their mind on this and include it in a update. Quote
