How to make certain shape or frame

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could help me how to make a certain shape. I dont know what it is called. So i just call it the "old school mirror shape"

I know i could probrably copy it from somewhere but i want to learn how to make it myself.

Any help would be certainly appreciated! And thank you all in advance.

See attached file.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

just use the pen tool to draw the shape.

https://affinity.help/designer/English.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_pen.html

There are great tutorial videos available:

If you want to replicate the golden fill pattern, you have several options:

  • use a fill color and noise, possibly more than one noise layer for dark and light pixels.
  • Use a image of that pattern, and clip the shape to that image.

you can learn all that techniques in the tutorial videos.

Have fun and don’t forget to share your work with us 😉

PS: i assume you are using Affinity Designer. The same is possible with Affinity Photo.

One other possibility, if you are not comfortable using the Pen Tool, is to build the shape from simpler shapes.
In my attached video I have used the Heart Tool, Ellipse Tool, Geometry Add, Node Tool and Corner Tool.
My example was created very crudely and you will need to experiment to get things looking as you want but you can probably see how to use the existing shapes to draw some complex shapes quite quickly.

An alternative way would be...

iMac 27" 2019 Ventura 13.6, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... XP-Pen Artist-22E, - iPad Pro 12.9 B|  Add a signature like this so system and app info always seen. Tagging is the gift that keeps on giving. Please consider adding tags to your post, not only does it help searching later on but it helps us, to give focused replies and is greatly appreciated by those that do reply, remember Affinity is for life not just Christmas.
