Frosty
Frustration!!! To take a pic from Aperture to Affinity, it's a simple drag and drop procedure. To go from Affinity back to Aperture after retouching, (I keep all my pics in Aperture from past practice) it is a multiple stage operation either by "Save" or "Export" to a selected folder in Finder, then one can drag and drop into Aperture. You cannot go directly to Aperture! WHY? Additionally, Affinity cannot be kept in the dock for immediate re-opening. It must be quit first, then reopened by clicking on the icon. All other apps. can remain in dock and a single click will open.
Madame
I can't help with the Aperture issue, but when in Affinity, cmd H will dock the programme. Staff MEB Posted November 29, 2015 Staff Share Posted November 29, 2015 Hi Frosty, There's a way to export from Aperture, edit in Affinity Photo and get the edited/saved photo back to Aperture. To do this you must first set Aperture to use Affinity Photo as an external editor going to Aperture ▸ Preferences..., Export tab (on top), then press the Choose button to select the External Photo Editor and point to Affinity Photo. For the External Editor File Format select TIFF (8 or 16 bits as you prefer). Now when you want to edit an image inside Aperture, right-click on it and select Edit with Affinity Photo app.... Affinity Photo will start with the image loaded (or open it if it's already running) ready to be edited. Edit the image as you wish then select File ▸ Save - a dialog will appear saying the image contains non-pixel elements -, select Save Flattened to flatten the image before sending to Aperture. That's it. The edited image will appear in Aperture alongside the original. luggiluggi
Is it also possible to export a psd file to Affinity Photo and save back the psd file to Aperture? TIFF works well but I'd like to keep the layers from my editing so that it's possible to make additional changes later on? Hopefully you can give me a solution. Staff MEB Posted December 10, 2015 Staff Share Posted December 10, 2015 Hi luggiluggi, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) No, currently Affinity Photo will not overwrite the .psd sent from Aperture if you do a Save, so it's not possible for Aperture to track down and store the edited image. This was a design decision to prevent Affinity from breaking an existing PSD since not all .psd features are supported due to its proprietary nature. JimG
I have AP as my external editor inside Aperture. When I send it to AP to to work on, usually when I save and it should update in Aperture, I get a image which says "Unsupported File Format" Then I have export as TIFF and re-import into Aperture. Once I had the image in Aperture successfully modified from AP. I decided to tweak the image a bit more in AP and the "Unsupported File Format" showed up. Bug? Or workaround? Thanks in advance. Staff MEB Posted December 25, 2015 Staff Share Posted December 25, 2015 Hi JimG,Aperture does not support Affinity Photo native file format afphoto. When saving a file sent from Aperture in Affinity Photo you should do a File ▸ Save then select Save Flattened from the dialog to flatten the image before sending to back to Aperture (as TIFF). The edited image will then appear in Aperture alongside the original.
