Eddy-2 Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Designer 1.10.4.1198, Windows 10. I have an artistic text block containing two words. If I select either word I can change its size, its colour, its font, etc. without altering the other word. However, if I select one word and then an effect from the Effects panel, the effect is applied to both words. Should it be? Quote
Old Bruce Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Yes. You are applying an Effect to the Art Text layer. If you want jus the one word affected then duplicate the Art Text and carefully line up the words. Bob's your uncle. where your is the word you want the effect on. Copy and paste the words so they turn into ; Bob's <- a layer your <- a layer with effect uncle <- a layer. and have the original Bob's your uncle to use to line up the three words Then hide or delete it. thomaso Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Alternatively you can work with only 1 copy of the initial text frame + maintain the text but assign No Colour Ø to those parts which should not occur in either of the two text frames. There is no need to adjust positions, just leave the copy on top of its original and rather select them individually via the Layers Panel to adjust their colours. Here the 2nd screenshot is just to illustrate that the frame with the effect still contains all text. This way both frames have identical bounding boxes which may be easier to handle and require less positioning. ... Eddy-2 Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 Thanks thomaso. I had intended trying a transparency fill on a word but your suggestion is quicker. As you say, it eliminates the alignment problem. thomaso 1 Quote

No, in that case everything would be clear because the effect would appear on the selection only, not on whole artistic text. Thank you for the clarification. I’m afraid it wasn’t obvious to me that your phrase “has to be” was intended to indicate a suggested improvement.
