WendyBrunerPaquette Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Studiolink is not connecting even after all programs have been updated on my iMac. Quote
GarryP Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Welcome to the forums @WendyBrunerPaquette The usual way to get StudioLink to work is to open both Designer and Photo before opening Publisher. This ‘registers’ – somehow – the new versions of Designer and Photo so they can be used with Publisher. If this doesn’t work then more information may be required but I don’t know what that information is at the moment. Someone else can probably help further if what I said above doesn’t fix it. Quote
Dan C Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Hi @WendyBrunerPaquette, Welcome to the Affinity Forums GarryP above is correct, and the Affinity apps need to be ran at least once for the Studio Link function to be detected. We also recommend making sure all the apps are within the Applications folder on your Mac. Please do let us know if this helps - if you're still having trouble then please try launching studio link and provide a screenshot showing the exact error message the Affinity app shows. Many thanks in advance! Quote

Rather, the term "Open" refers to opening a data file in an application. In this case it comes to running the application, there is no need to open any data files yet, so the terms used could be confusing. GarryP Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 I can understand that there may be some confusion for some people but I was specifically talking about the applications rather than documents – “open both Designer”, “opening Publisher”. Personally I generally use Open, rather than Run, Launch, Start, Execute, or anything else, but that’s just me, probably because I also talk about Closing applications and Open is the opposite – they work nicely together. I don’t think there is an ‘industry standard’ for what anyone should call these actions, so I think “Open” is just fine given the context in which it was used. Each to their own, as long as it’s fairly clear what’s being discussed. This thread is about four years old but it’s still interesting, look at the graph: https://ux.stackexchange.com/questions/106001/do-we-open-or-launch-or-startapps Quote

GarryP Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 I’m not prepared to put any more time/effort into this very minor language quibble. You have your opinion, I have my opinion, neither is “correct”, neither is “incorrect”, they are just two different opinions. You choose what you want to call it and I will choose what I want to call it. Quote

FWIW, on Macs in many apps including the Affinity ones, you can close all an app's open windows without quitting it. So launch, open, close, & quit can each refer to different things. But more to the topic of this discussion, I wonder if the OP is trying to use Studio Link from within AD or AP. That of course isn't possible because Studio Link is a feature of APub only. Updated or not, that has nothing to do with which of them can use Studio Link. Also, just guessing but from "Wendy" in the user's name, this is probably not a him. Although it has nothing to do with an explicit statement of what StudioLink can and cannot run from, it is quite obvious (at least for me) that the OP used it correctly before the update. What I mean is Wendy is typically the name of a female so "she" or "her" would be the usual pronoun form used in English, not "he" or "him." Usually not a big deal but some people are sensitive about things like that.
