Myriam Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Hi! I enabled smart objects in the preferences of Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo in order to work on pre-purchased PSD mockups. The mockups seem to import/open correctly, but the design doesn't show. When I double-click, I can see and adjust/redo the design, but I still don't have a visual on it. How can I change that? Thank you! Quote
Staff DWright Posted November 19, 2021 Staff Posted November 19, 2021 HI @Myriam, If your PSD mock up file uses scripts to perform actions these will not work in the Affinity apps as they do not support these functions. Quote
Myriam Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 Hi DWright, Is there a way to disable the scripts or a way to see if a mockup uses them? Thanks! Quote

I don't think the script can be turned off, if it could be you would have a not finished image. The only way to know if a PSD has a script is to ask the site or person to start including this information. Myriam Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 Thank you. Sounds like a lot of trial and error to figure it out and spending money on files I might not be able to use. Does anybody know if there is a solution planned by Affinity for the future? Quote
Staff MEB Posted November 19, 2021 Staff Posted November 19, 2021 Hi @Myriam, Welcome to Affinity Forums Do you mind uploading the PSD file shown in your second screenshot? I would like to take a look if possible. Here's an upload link you can use to send it directly to us. PSD is proprietary/closed format for which there isn't full documentation. Reverse engineering it takes a lot of time and effort and Adobe can always change it as we move forward. It's a risky/moving target that usually doesn't worth pursuing. With that said, we are continuously trying to improve our PSD import/export routines. Thanks. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Myriam Posted November 19, 2021 Author Posted November 19, 2021 Hi MEB, I just uploaded that file plus another one I was trying to work with. Thank you. Quote
Staff MEB Posted November 22, 2021 Staff Posted November 22, 2021 Hi Myriam, Thank you for the files. There's a couple of issues which are preventing them from being rendered properly. I'm logging and updating/bumping the issues (one is already logged/known) so this can be looked at. You can still work around the limitations/issues adjusting a few settings and structuring the layers in a different way. I will contact you later via PM to help you with this. Thanks for reporting it. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Myriam Posted November 23, 2021 Author Posted November 23, 2021 Hi MEB, Thank you for looking into this and hopefully integrating a solution for future uses. I was able to work around those files for now, thanks again for all your help! Quote
