Magic placeholders in Affinity Design

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've just found a strange way to integrate placeholders into Affinity Designer.
I was working on Affinity Publisher on a catalogue document. I wanted to iterate layouts on Designer. So I pasted some placeholders from Publisher to Designer. I was very amused and surprised to see that those placeholders were functional in Designer... Worked like a charm. And they are much more convenient to move content around and use different solutions for layouts as they keep the good ratio for all pictures included in the placeholders. So here is my question, why not integrating them as permanent tools in Affinity Designer? Is there a potential issue I'm not aware about yet in Designer?

I hope this was clear enough...
Hope so ;)))

First, you posted this under Feedback for Photo, not Feedback for Designer :)   (No need to move it; a moderator can do that.)

Second, just to clarify: by Placeholder do you mean Picture Frame, or something else?

One of the problems with Publisher to Designer is that if the file (doesn't matter what type, Designer, Photo or Publisher [they are all the same]) has had the special characters turned on in Publisher then they are visible in Designer and cannot be turned off in Designer.

Publisher : Text > Show Special Characters.

Other than that one thing I wouldn't worry about it, it really is cool how some things carry over.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.0 | Affinity Photo 2.4.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Now just add them to your Designer Assets panel and you can use them in new Designer documents without have to cut and paste from Publisher

Assuming by "placeholders" you mean picture frames

Hi,

can you explain better what you mean by placeholders? What happened when you pasted them into Designer? Maybe some visual example to see it in action?

Thank you.
