I have recently been having issues with the storage of this app. It is taking up 50gb of storage. I have tried deleting it and re installing it. When I install it, it has a normal storage amount, but gradually increases. My files in the app take up minimal space. Please help. Thanks

Hi @Seth Hendrick,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble! I can confirm this is a known issue to the Affinity team, as it appears to be an iOS bug, as outlined in the below link -

We have reported this to Apple but unfortunately we have yet to receive a response, my apologies. However I will do my best here to make sure you have a backup of all Affinity files, should you wish to remove the app from your iPad.

Firstly, we need to make sure that all of your files are backed up to a folder that won't be removed if you reinstall the app.

Please open the Affinity app, then on the Homescreen select the 'hamburger' menu option in the bottom right corner of each file and select 'Save'. This will save the latest version of the document directly to your default saving location.
Please repeat this process for any open documents, making sure you see '...saving to [On my iPad/iCloud]' when you press Save.
Once completed, I recommend creating a copy of the files saved within your 'Affinity Photo' folder to a different folder, either elsewhere on your iPad or in a cloud strogae location such as iCloud - to ensure you have a copy of these files secured.

Having completed the above, you should have 2 folders on your iPad with all of your Affinity documents, one of which is the 'Affinity Photo' folder created by the app, the other is the newly created folder for backup in a different location.

Now, open the Settings app on your iPad and navigate to General > iPad Storage. Wait for the list to load, then select the Affinity Photo app in the list. Here you should see an option called 'Offload App'.
As described below, selecting this option will remove the app from your iPad, but retain it's data. This will ensure that your custom settings, brushes, assets and files are not lost - but should hopefully fix the incorrectly reported filesize.

Select 'Offload App' and wait for this to complete. Once completed we need to 'hard restart' your iPad to flush the apps cache. You can find instructions on how to complete this linked below -

https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-to-reset-an-ipad/#dtads-hub-yezab0dzc8:~:text=If you have any iPad with,Power button until the device restarts.

Once your iPad has finished turning on, re-open the Settings app and you should find that the storage figures have returned to an acceptable value.
Now, please open the App Store and navigate to the 'Purchased' section of your account here. You should find that you can re-download the Affinity app from here without being charged again.

Once installed, open the app and you should hopefully find that your apps settings are as you left them. This should hopefully also fix the storage in use through Settings for the app.

Please do let me know how you get on here!

I did this prior to your response and it is working fine so far. One of the reasons I found online was from having too many projects open at once. I am therefor trying to limit the amount of projects open. I’ll let you know if it does happen again, even with minimal projects open. Thanks

Unfortunately, for me, this didn't solve the issue. After I offloaded the app, the amount of "Documents & data" associated with Affinity Designer didn't change and some other cache took up some space so I now even cannot reinstall the Affinity Designer app.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @RadekSkylark. :)

Unfortunately, it’s to be expected that simply offloading the app will not reduce the amount of storage used by documents and other data. Restart your iPad to free up as much space as possible, offload one or more additional apps until you’re able to reinstall AD, and then go to the Home Screen and back up each of the files that you see there, as @Dan C described:

With your files safely backed up, you can then proceed to delete them from the Home Screen, which will free up the app’s sandbox storage for use with new documents.

After backing up my files, if I remove the app from my iPad and reinstall it, only to "import' the projects I actually want to work on, will it fix this issue at least for the moment?

Thanks

I would be disappointed if it didn’t!
