I have uploaded the file with the two shapes (A=red shape , B=black shape). I also have updated affinity for latest version (1.10.4.1198) on windows 10.

The result I want to achieve is the B - A .

When I perform the substract, or even the Xor, I do not get the correct result (I get B).

If I perform an intersect the, I get as expected the result (A).

Is there a way to get the expected result?

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Change the Fill Mode to Alternate once the shape has been subtracted – menu “Layer → Fill Mode → Alternate (Even-Odd)”.
Or, reverse the direction of either curve before subtracting.

I have no idea why there should be a difference but this, at least, gets you what you want.

Note: I don’t know if this is a bug, as such, and it may simply be the expected behaviour.

Hello.

Thanks for the workaround. It worked!!!

But I was not expecting it would as used shapes are oval ones, (which means not polycurve with intersecting lines .)

So there probably something to correct anyway (if I replaced any oval by rectangle shape, it is ok).

Best regards and many thanks again 🙂

Subtracting an ellipse from another ellipse seems to work okay for me but I haven’t tried every combination.
Same goes when I have converted each ellipse to curves.
There may be something ‘odd’ with your particular curves but I’m not a curve/node guru so I’m not best suited to explore that.
Anyway, glad you can continue on your way.

Try looking at the design at 100% before doing this sort of thing. It is not even 6 by 7 pixels in size. What real world difference is it going to make?

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

This is a part of a 16x16 for font icon that I have extracted to located precisely the problem (it is the head of a user, so you were not that far! 🙂 ).So the case of a font design, it is important to have a very precise shape like you have usually on any alphabet: It is a 16x16 design

Note: If you rescale to 1000x1000 size, you will have the same effect. I tried it. So this is not a question of image size.

Anyway, now thanks to you, I can make it work, but this is weired.
