Hi,

My issue started when I manually styled some text and when I copied and pasted content in from a word doc the styles I created vanish?

This is what I would do in Indesign so assumed would be the same for Affininty. This happens for me in Publisher and also Photo.

I found out as a workaround to use text styles but I'm now having issues with the character leading override. When using a text style the leading doesn't seem to change in 1 point increments but jump between around 5 point gaps?

Is there a way to copy paste text in without losing styling? I would prefer this way rather than using text styles.

I'm still quite new to Affinity so thanks you so much for the help.

Jeremy

The find and replace panel will be your friend. You can choose find Character Style or Paragraph Style or Font traits. Then you can replace them with Publisher Styles, Character and Paragraph styles.

First thing I want to know is. Is the text you are copying and pasting actually holding onto Paragraph and Character Styles from "a word document"? Or is the text simply set with font attributes, size colour leading etc.

At a quick glance I would say there is a need for 6 Paragraph styles and one Character style on the right hand pages. I have outlined them in Green, and the red colour would be the need for the Character Style. That Character Style would be based on [No Style] and would be having only the colour of the text changed, everything else will be unchanged.

All the font attributes should be set in the Paragraph Styles not Character Styles.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thanks for the speedy reply Bruce.

My apologies as Im a bit confused? Would it be better to use find and replace or just set up text styles?

In answer to your question it does appear that the content is holding onto Paragraph and Character Styles from the word document.

I did set up a few style for the sections you suggested, my issue at this point is the one with the leading over ride.

So if you see the top header, I'm trying to simply bring the top and bottom text closer and remove the gap.

Thanks

Jeremy

I will always set up Publisher Paragraph and Character Styles before importing anything. I will then go through and use find and replace to replace anything like the red letters with my pre made Red Character style. Then go to the find and replace to find and replace the imported from Word styles with my own Paragraph Styles. Finally I will delete the unused imported styles.

Regarding the Top Header, that may be a case of Baseline Grid is on in the Paragraph Style, turn it off. Do not use a Character style or an override for the changing of leading, it will cause massive problems later on.

Here is a combination of the three states for the Baseline Grid, turn it off.

Hi Bruce, thank you so much for the explanation.

Just getting to grips with the work flow.

Turning the baseline grid off did the trick.

One last quick question, is it possible to drag a selection box with the move tool over multiple page elements to select them?

Thanks,

Jeremy

There is a preference for that in the Tools section.

By "multiple page elements" I am assuming that you mean Multiple Elements on one spread and not Multiple Pages. The former is possible with the preference change but not the latter.
