Hallo, on IPAD we are getting the prefixes attached of a dot and underscore as you see below to filenames. My wife draws in ProCreate, transfers to designer on IPAD, works a little there, transfers to USB stick for printing.  As you can see all the files are duplicated with these prefixes and the VIEW mode on my Windows is NOT set to see hidden files etc.

On top of all this she has suddenly been getting messages on our Laser printer that the file is corrupt. I try to open these files in Affinity Photo on Windows 10 and indeed I get the same message that the files are corrupt.

Has anybody any advice please?

Thank you

Chris

Microsoft - Like entering your home and opening the stainless steel kitchen door, with a Popup: 'Do you really want to open this door'? Then looking for the dishwasher and finding it stored in the living room where you have to download a water supply from the app store, then you have to buy microsoft compliant soap, remove the carpet only to be told that it is glued to the floor.. Don't forget to make multiple copies of your front door key and post them to all who demand access to all the doors inside your home including the windows and outside shed.

Apple - Like entering your home and opening the oak framed Kitchen door and finding the dishwasher right in front you ready to be switched on, soap supplied, and water that comes through a water softener.  Ah the front door key is yours and it only needs to open the front door.

Ok the "DOT" and "Underscore" prefixed files now I understand.  Apparantly Apple's cluttering process when saving to a windows drive - a well known issue apparantly that annoys quite a few people.   However Problem with corrupt designer files not solved. I'll just give this a miss for now.

You don't seem to have mentioned anything in this topic about corrupt Designer files. It has seemed like you've been talking about trying to open the ._ files, and you've been told they are not usable, which is probably correct.

What problem are you having with .afdesign files?

Hallo Walt, I am so sorry, I really messed this up.  Ok Firstly, we are not tryig to open the files that have the 'dot' and 'underscore' prefix, those we left alone, I understand this is an apple thing.  What I have been so neglectful to point out is this:   My wife draws in ProCreate, transfers to designer on IPAD, works a little there, then exports as a JPG and transfers to USB stick for printing.  The printer then says the file is corrupt.  I try to open the JPG in Affinity Photo in WIN 10 but get the same message.  Funny thing here is that 3 of the 4 JPGs are corrupt and one is not, all done at the same time, this has happened once before.  Now it could be that this has nothing to do with affinity, in fact I doubt that it has, which is why I have not posted this before now.  But I wonder if anyone has any immediate advice at this stage.  Hope now to have explained things more precisely - my fault.

PS : My original confusion was seeing loads of these replicated JPG files with a ._ prefix added to them and wrongly assumed that this was the cause of file corruptions, which they are not.  It is Apple's clutter being visible to a windows user as I eventually found out.  Thanks Walt.

If you'd like to provide one or two of the corrupt .jpg files someone may be able to figure out what's wrong with them.

Edit: ps: thanks for the clarification.

Are the files being exported directly to the USB stick?  Does the same issue happen if you export the file to the local storage on the iPad, then move the exported image to the USB drive and try opening the file?

Stokerg and Walt, thank you very much for your replies.  I was about to upload the files when I asked my wife to go through her workflow critically and discovered that she sometimes, for some files, clicked on "share" after the export dialogue in A.Designer instead of clicking on an actual folder in the USB.  (Too much social media use I suppose).  Anyway the problem is solved, as I always believed, the issue was never with affinity 😊

KInd Regards to you

Chris
