Input fields: Shift-Arrow = 10x incremental increase/decrease

Recommended Posts

When I'm in a numeric text field, holding down the Shift key as I tap the arrow keys should increase/decrease the value 10x.

(At the moment this key combination acts to select the text before/after the insertion point, which, while standard behavior for text fields, is not the expected behavior for numeric input fields.)

Yes scamper, I also miss this feature from the Adobe apps... it helps sett up your settings without having to reach out to the mouse/tablet/trackpad to click on tiny buttons... would be a great addition to AD's UI

Besides having a larger increment with a modifier, it would be extremely useful to have a preference that allowed us to set the default  increment value when pressing the up/down keys.

I remember having this in FreeHand and it was a time saver.

I would set it to 1.0 for projects that needed coarser values. So, each up/down cursor press would increase/decrease the value by 1.0 and Shift+Up/Down arrow would increase/decrease by 10.0

I would set it to .1 for projects that needed finer values. So, each up/down cursor press would increase/decrease the value by .1 and Shift+Up/Down arrow would increase/decrease by 1.0

I would set it to .01 for projects that needed even finer values. So, each up/down cursor press would increase/decrease the value by .01 and Shift+Up/Down arrow would increase/decrease by .1

Much, much more flexible and powerful.

The nice thing about this ability is that, for example, I could need to have my document in centimeters or millimeters but measure increments in points.

So, I would set the displace value to 0.353 mm or 0.0353 cm and keep the document units in millimeters or centimeters but pressing the cursor keys would move my objects in 1 point increments. Or 10 point increments, with Shift pressed.

Actually, in FreeHand, you could set a value for up/down cursor and a completely different value for Shift+Up/down. But I usually set it to 10x

So, being able to do define an increment value and multiply by 10 with the Shift key and divide by 10 be pressing the Alt key would be great.
