Hi , The Xor & intersect just keep hanging when i try to use it , one once or twice , Every time.      Im using a Macbook pro 2020 M1 silicon with OS 12.0.1   .

i have tried splitting two circles and 6 lines to form a boarder , similar to a port hole etc . it just hang

I have had it with the pricing of Adobe products , and have been testing other options out . Im currently using the Trial version of Designer ( which i assume is the full software)  , Affinity Designer was coming in at the top of the list but if i cant divide shapes / build shapes , then Affinity designer is next to no use to me .

screen shots attached.

Hope to get a reply Asap

Cheers

Ady✌️

You have found one more of the major flaws with Affinity's applications, the boolean operations don't work with straight line segments, or open curves.

You could try adding all the curves which make up the segments and then try to divide.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Unfortunately Affinity Designer's Boolean Operations only work with closed shapes (unlike most other vector based software), i.e., they won't currently work using lines, hence why the Xor fails. Hopefully this is an area that will be vastly improved whenever v2.0 is released... 🙏

A few options depending on what you're trying to achieve...

Expand your lines...

If you want a hole in the middle of your circle...

Use a donut...

Thanks Guys ✌️.   My needs for vector software are really simple . I design stained glass artwork and windows and don't need all the bells and whistles that these programs offer.

Hangman ,  I ended up using a rectangle set to the heart thickness of Lead ( lead for glass work) , i didn't think to expand the stroke , which i figure is basically the same . .  Thanks for your Videos .

Are there any good places on the web to learn the Affinity interface and work around for someone coming from Adobe products?..

Again, thank you lads for taking the time to reply!!,

Best ,

That makes perfect sense and I'm glad that's working for you now...

There are plenty of video resources on both the Affinity website and on YouTube that will help in learning both the interface and specific functionality in AD...

https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/designer/desktop/

and here on Affinity's YouTube channel

https://www.youtube.com/c/Affinitybyserif/videos

and plenty of other third party video tutorials on YouTube as well...

BTW, your Stained Glass work is amazing, I just took a look at your Etsy shop, are you in Ripley, Surrey, Harrogate or Christchurch?

Thanks Hangman,    I will take a look at the links over the course of this weekend.

Yeah, thanks for the compliment , Glass work and the traditional kiln fired painting needs a keen + attention to details and the glass its self is just shapes  after all, hence my need for shape building tools ( i find it more productive to just sketch out the lead lines then recreate full size in vector software) .  im based in Ripley , Derbyshire .
