Cropping handles won't move

Recommended Posts

I am new to Affinity. I used the trial version and cropping worked fine. I bought a license. A licensed version on a Mac M1. The crop handles won't move. I select a crop tool. The crop overlay appears. I clink on any handle but the handle won't move.

Welcome to the forums @leom

When you say that you “click on any handle” do you mean that you drag any handle?
Can you supply a full-screen screenshot of you using the Crop Tool, including your Layers Panel open with the suspect layer showing in that panel?
If you can supply a video showing the problem then that might be better than just a screenshot.

If the checkbox in the Layers Panel for a particular layer is unchecked then that layer should not be visible so I don’t understand why you were trying to crop a layer which you shouldn’t be able to see. Could you see the layer which had its checkbox unchecked?

It's a bug. I checked the button, selected a crop region larger than the image. Then I unchecked the button. The crop handles now work as expected.

I agree that the histogram settings should not effect the crop tool.

What do you feel as a bug? – When you selected the Crop Tool ("checked the button") & "selected a crop region larger than the image"  you did this by moving the cropping rectangle by its handles or edges, correct? So what exactly did not work before?

I'm new to this program. I'm new to this Mac. I just found out the track pad has 2 pressure sensitivities. I was pressing too hard on the track pad. The Mac interprets this as two mouse buttons down. This behavior was driving me nuts. I think this is the source of the Affinity problems I was having..

Thanks for the feedback. No bug with the handles :)  Just in case, did you notice the explaining animation in your new track pad options window? You might need to wait a while to make it start, once started it goes through the various options of the currently selected topic tab of this window, each tab has its own movie.

I am having the same issue on my new Mac M1. I had to be switching between old and new Mac just to edit photos which is quite inconvenient. The crop handle will work on one side then to will freeze. Crop handle won't move. Hopefully, the developer can look into this because it seems it could be Mac M1 issues.

Are you using a trackpad like the OP? If not, it probably is not the same issue.

Is your trackpad set up to use 2 click pressure levels?

Thank you for the reply. I posted my message before ai saw your post about your message regarding "pressing too hard on the track pad." I became gentle on the track pad and I was able to complete the cropping without any more issues.

I don't know when Apple added this feature. I was getting very frustrated with other app, the dock and finder before I found out about this.

There’s a few things I can’t do on M1 as I used to do on my previous MacBook Pro. It appears I need to relearn new shortcuts. Very disappointed

I love the M1 pro. It's an upgrade from my 2012 13" MBP, so I'm thrilled. I have to give up my old CS6 Adobe Suite though. That's the biggest loss for me. I don't use Adobe PS and AI enough to justify a subscription. That why I'm checking out Affinity and Luminar.
