deactivate update check

Recommended Posts

Hi

How can the automatic update check on startup be deactivated? I know the versions are outdated for some time now, but I really don´t care. I don´t need any changes or updates for that little work I do with these apps, so I save the time and energy for the updates.

I am pretty sure this is a common question (thats not in the FAQ) that should be answered somewhere, but I did not find it. I struggle with the search function of these forums. The rudimentary search box neither looks convincingly to me nor do the results.

Greetings

Al

Unfortunately it can’t be deactivated from the user interface.

Various requests have been made to change the buttons to something like:

  • Download Now;
  • Remind Me Later;
  • Don’t Remind Me Again.

I think there may be a solution for business users - https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/137749-disable-update-notification-at-startup/ - but I don’t know if it’s something we can all use.

As you don't say if you are on Windows or Mac I will just say Mac has a Preference for this.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.2
Affinity Designer 2.3.1 | Affinity Photo 2.3.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.3.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I dont know how to do this but you can use a firewall to block the app.

But if you block the app completely you also block the offers on the Welcome Screen, and you block the My Account function. So that would need to be done selectively, which is harder.

For completeness, I will add that this preference exists only if the Mac Affinity app was purchased from the Affinity Store. If It came from the Mac App Store, there is no preference in the app, but System Preferences > Software Update has an option not to automatically check for (or download) app updates.

I am a bit surprised that the Windows Affinity Store versions do not have this preference.
