Affinity Publisher all automatic insert like date have background color

Recommended Posts

I have a 325 page manuscript set up in Affinity Publisher using Windows 10. I am using Publisher 1.10.4. All was well after 10.9 then every entry that came from automatic test insert has a dark yellow background. I believe it started after 1.10.3 but I was busy on other things and thought I would wait to fix that. Tried highlights, backgrounds, redoing, text, frames, decorations, going to factory setting, etc. Nothing helped. Then created a new file and added the pages from the old document.  All the same. Finally tried new document with nothing but inserted date. Same thing. Have many times tried rebooting; reinstalling.

Then I went back a version; back 2 versions and back 3 versions. Nothing helps even if I go back to versions before the problem. Now it doesn't matter which version I use, the same background is on every insert. It does not show up in a printing of the pages and I don't see it in a PDF but I do not know if it would show up in the PDF for publisher. I thought perhaps there was something not getting deleted but the Affinity folder in program files is erased whenever I uninstall. I do not want to have to type page numbers and section name on every page.

I am very frustrated. I can work around most problems which there have been many but need help with this. Thank you in advance for your time.

Fields are by default highlighted, not coloured. Try this option under the Text menu.

Alternately, enable Preview Mode, either from the toolbar (its button should be there if you are using the defaults) or from the View menu.

A bit more about Preview Mode can be found here in the help topics.

Thank you. I did learn a lot in the two days I spent on this but did not find that. I do not understand how it was off for so many months then turned on. It was checked so must have been changed in an update? Nothing else was checked as a default. If, as you say, it defaults to highlight, it must have been in error all that time. Strange.
