The past two upgrades forced me to restart my computer

Recommended Posts

I frequently use the feature where I drag a photo and drop it on the Affinity Photo icon in the dock.  This starts Affinity Photo and opens the dropped file.  This was working properly until the upgrade,  After the upgrade I could double click the icon in the dock then use the menu to open the file, but the drag and drop feature produced the error screen shown below.  The only way I have found to fix the problem is to restart the computer.  After a restart everything works again,  Is there something I am doing wrong in the upgrade or is the upgrade somehow broken.  Note;  Before the restart, this message appears even when Affinity Photo  is already running.

Hi APhotoWizard,

I've not seen an error like this reported before have you tried reinstalling the app since this started happening? Which version of Mac OS / Affinity is it you are using?

Thanks
C

@Callum

I am running the following:

  Model Name: iMac

  Model Identifier: iMac18,3

  Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Core i7

OS: macOS Big Sur  -  Version 11.6

 I have had this problem with the last three versions of Affinity Photo and I am now running version 1.10.4.   Prior to that, I had no problems with updates, they just worked.

I discovered it is not just a drag and drop problem. The same problem happens when another program tries to start Affinity Photo.  I am running a image viewer named Viewit version 2.66.  It has a menu option which allows a viewed image to be opened in another application for editing.  After installed Affinity Photo version 1.10.4 I tried to use that menu option to start Affinity Photo and I received the message shown above.  After I restarted the OS  it works correctly again.

It is not a big issue, just a little irritation and I not accustomed to things like this with Affinity products.  They normally just work for me.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can to do help you locate the problem.  If it turns out to be my fault I will cheerfully apologize.
