oldburton
Hi, Can someone suggest how I can get rid of a small extra text frame that appears each time I draw a text frame? This is new to me so I can only think that I have unknowingly triggered it myself. I It also seems to affect the layout of pasted text. I have attached three screenshots showing the three stages. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
walt.farrell
That looks like you're using a Paragraph Text Style that is (a) Centered and (b) uses a Box style or other form of paragraph decoration. Or possibly that you have set a centered and boxed style as your default for Text Frames. If you don't have anything entered in the Paragraph Text Style box in the Context Toolbar, then you might try drawing a new Text Frame then from the menu, Edit > Defaults > Revert, possibly followed by Edit > Defaults > Synchronize from Selection. oldburton
Very many thanks, your advice has solved that problem - almost. As you can below with my two facing pages, I filled the first text frame but got a gap then dragged it over to the next page and it filled it completely. Any thoughts
Old Bruce
There may be an invisible rectangle or picture frame in the blank area with Text wrap turned on. walt.farrell
I agree with Bruce. Likely there is something there, that will be visible in the Layers panel if we could see that. oldburton
Thanks Walt and Bruce. I have been trying to find a hidden layer but the panel doesn't show one. The funny part about it is that I can place an image over it but not text. Does that tell us something?
Old Bruce
Does not need to be a hidden layer. Can we see a screenshot of the Layers panel with the problem text frame selected. Old Bruce
Could be any of these layers or even one further down. <-- these are hidden This is what happens Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.2 Affinity Designer 2.3.1 | Affinity Photo 2.3.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.3.1 | Beta versions as they appear. iconoclast
Could it be that the image on the right side of the layout has a Text Wrap setting that supresses the text on the left?
thomaso
Your screenshot shows less than the half of the layers in the panel, additionally some are set to invisible. Note that Text Wrap works also for objects without visual appearance (no stroke, no fill) and/or if they are set to invisible in the layers panel. oldburton
Thanks everyone who have helped with their advice. I have had a purge of my layers which seems to have fixed it! I will bear the other suggestions in mind if it crops up again.
