Affinity Photo Crashing due to Capture One

Recommended Posts

I am using Affinity Photo (Mac v1.10.3) and have not experienced any issues until installing Capture One Pro 21.  I immediately noticed that Affinity Photo was practically unusable.  Shortly after opening a raw file, the app either freezes or becomes non responsive.  e.g. I can move any of the sliders such as exposure and see no change.  I have to force quit to exit the app.  My computer also would not shut down properly and nothing I did improved the problem.  Re-installing Affinity didn't help.  Uninstalling Capture One does help, so I assume it's the root cause.

Ideally, I would like to have both applications installed.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

I seem to have an similar problem using Capture One and Affinity simultaneously. As there is no organizer in Affinity, and as I am using Sony cameras, I have installed Capture One Express for Sony. It has a good RAW editor for Sony pics and a well developed organizing feature. Should be easy to store, catalogue and tag pics in Capture One and then just select, drag and drop on the Affinity work area. Nine times out of ten Affinity crashes. I have now paused Capture One, reinstalled Affinity Photo, but Affinity is still unstable. I understood from an old (2017) comment by Mark Ingram that this has something to do with the NVDIA settings, but is this a remaining problem, also when not using Capture One any more and can you reset NVDIA or is there another solution to this problem?

I would like to be able to use Affinity and Capture One together, as both are good programs. Has some kind of solution been developed since 2017?

Have you tried the workaround mentioned in the FAQ article I linked to above? Possibly the path name will be different, but maybe you can figure out what it should be.

I run Capture One Express for Sony and Affinity Photo on a Windows PC with no recent problems. I did do the workaround some time ago. It might be hardware acceleration which can get tetchy. Try turning it off if you have it on (the default) . Edit->Preferences->Performance. And make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. I use Edit With or Open With from the Image menu in Capture One and send a tiff to Photo rather than drag and drop.

Thanks Richard. I'll try to set the thing as you suggest.

Thanks Walt, I'll try to find this workaround.
