PrettyRikki
I spent over an hour with Norton last night remotely controlling my pc and he said it's nothing they're doing. I did recently upgrade to windows 11 so he said that could be the issue, although I also upgraded my laptop with no issues. I run Norton on there too, although my Affinity is the previous version... Staff Dan C Posted June 9, 2022 Staff Share Posted June 9, 2022 Apologies for the delayed response here @PrettyRikki & many thanks for the further information provided! I'd like to try a slightly different approach, can you please open Windows Run (Windows Key + R) then paste the following and press OK: C:\Program Files\Affinity\Designer\Resources\Affinity Designer\ In the window that opens, you should see multiple '.lproj' folders, for the languages that Affinity supports. Within this main folder, can you please download, unzip and copy the provided .propcol files into this location, so you have a setup similar to the below - Affinity Designer.zip Once copied here, please open Task Manager and make sure the list of running applications is visible. Now launch Affinity Designer - you should find the default brushes etc are available. Please keep a close eye on Task Manager as the app launches, to see if any other applications launch, or start using more resources, indicating they may be interfering with the Affinity app. Do your brushes now show as expected? More importantly, are they retained if you close and re-open the app?
PrettyRikki
Hey there, I've been swamped but I just went through this and I did in fact get my brushes, however, now I cannot get Affinity to reopen...no other apps opened while I launched originally, but now it just goes through the process like it's opening but it does not. Have you tried this method to reset Affinity, you will lose certain settings, so consider this a "restore to factory default" option. Close down Photo From the Desktop, Hold down Ctrl and double click on Affinity Photo to open it whilst still holding down Ctrl This will prompt a new menu. You can leave the top 3 checked and also check the reset brushes option and then press Clear Load back into Photo to confirm you have access. Also try "I would also confirm that Hardware Acceleration is disabled under Edit > Preferences > Performance." PrettyRikki
Morning....so I tried this last suggestion and still won't open....I did some optional updates, restarted, and nothing. Something else is going on because I get this error, and I'm assuming maybe it's a related issue but none of the suggestions for this is working either... Staff Dan C Posted June 22, 2022 Staff Share Posted June 22, 2022 Thanks for letting me know - the error message you're seeing here could certainly be related to the issues experienced within Affinity. I recommend performing an SFC scan, as outlined here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files-79aa86cb-ca52-166a-92a3-966e85d4094e As well as the Windows Update Troubleshooting, from here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/deployment/update/windows-update-resources I hope this helps
PrettyRikki
Thank you everyone for all of your help - I ended up having to reinstall windows because even Microsoft couldn't fix this error otherwise I did get my brushes back, but I lost all of my favorites I had on google chrome, plus some other stuff. I still don't know what deleted my brushes but I pray it doesn't happen again.
