MattT
Hi. Have experienced Photo crashing, and appears to be doing it more frequently with recent versions. I can't say I notice a consistent pattern with what causes the crash, beyond it will happen usually soon after first launching the program, typically with the first edit of the image. No error messages or anything--just working on an image then suddenly looking at the desktop. System is Ryzen 5 3600, RX 580 8GB GPU, 32 GB RAM. Attaching a folder listing of crash reports. Will post as many .dmp files as you want or need. Thanks. SamRamSan1
Staff Chris B Posted October 7, 2021 Staff Share Posted October 7, 2021 Hey MattT, Sorry to hear this. Can we have a few of the most recent ones please? Do you have OpenCL enabled from Preferences > Performance? Do you have OpenCL enabled from Preferences > Performance? Sure. Folder shows 7 from today--I've attached the last 4. OpenCL is not enabled. Staff Chris B Posted October 11, 2021 Staff Share Posted October 11, 2021 Hey MattT, I'm not seeing a great deal in the crash reports. The majority is just referencing the libraster.dll but that could be related to rendering anything raster based. I did see a reference to DXCore which could be related to some Direct 3D stuff - I'm really not sure. Other than updating the graphics drivers (I'd remove them first) you could try running on the iGPU instead of the dGPU (Preferences > Performance). Does the app let you enable OpenCL? MattT
iGPU vs dGPU stands for integrated vs discrete graphics? The system uses a Ryzen 5 3600 which doesn't have integrated graphics. But I will enable OpenCL and see how that goes. Thanks for the follow-up!
Staff Chris B Posted October 11, 2021 Staff Share Posted October 11, 2021 Hey MattT, Sorry - I assumed you had Intel but I've just seen your specs in the first post... apologies! Is there a reason OpenCL was disabled at some point? By default, it should be enabled. Did you disable it when you were trying to troubleshoot your own issue? You can install the beta and see if that is any more stable. There are a number of fixes in it so it's perhaps worth a shot. It installs side-by-side with the Retail version so there's no messing around. I'm not suggesting you beta test the app but rather use it over the Retail if it's more stable. I'd just back any work up if you do wish to try it as you cannot open beta files in Retail. MattT
Hi, Chris B: I don't know why OpenCL was disabled. It's not a setting I remember changing. I will say that so far with it enabled I'm not experiencing any crashes. That said, I've been taken away from graphics work for a bit lately and haven't been using Photo as much as usual. I'll keep you updated.
