Juc1
Hi all Using Designer, I want to do a decorative border something like the attached photo. I could do this with three different strokes but is there a better way to do this or does anyone know any brushes that can do this? Thanks... GarryP
I would recommend using the Appearance Panel to add multiple strokes to a single shape/curve. By doing so the layer remains a vector – if you were to use a brush the layer would be rasterised upon export.
PixelPest
I´d draw a trapezoid and fill with a gradient - pretty easy scalable.
GarryP
There’s also the possibility of using an Outline Layer Effect, as in my quickly-created attached image. Plenty of solutions but we probably need more information about exactly what the border should look like as the original image is fuzzy and the phrase “like the attached photo” doesn’t give us enough detail. firstdefence
I'd suggest the contour tool but the top right corner distorts when contouring, this really shouldn't happen on such a simple task or any contour process. I'd say the contour tool is broken. Quote iMac 27" 2019 Ventura 13.6, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... I'd say the contour tool is broken. I think I am probably misunderstanding something about what you mean but for me the Contour Tool seems well behaved, at least when I apply it to a rectangle. I'm also not sure how it could produce a frame like in the OP's screenshot with the appearance of more than one stroke, or a gradient. Can you maybe post an AD file that shows the problem? EDIT: OK, I think I see what you mean. As in this contour test.afdesign example, for many (but not all?) negative contour radius values, the top right corner distorts. It seems that for any positive radius, it works fine. EDIT 2: It most definitely does not work fine for positive radius values if I convert the rectangle to curves, as in this contour test 2.afdesign example. Spoils an otherwise useful tool, and I wish they would remove the tooltip for the alt key making a clone or activate it so that it does make a clone. For instance, with a few added nodes I get contour test 3.afdesign.
