Unlike many people I’ve seen doing drawing or design videos recently I prefer drawing out ideas rather than retracing a paper sketch.I’ve noticed a lot of Affinity tutorials showcase pre drawn work being redone by using either the pencil or pen tool. I personally prefer to draw everything out from start to finish which brings me to my issue with using Pixel or Designer Persona.Sadly Affinity doesn’t have near the variety of brushes found for Photoshop or Procreate.I’ve seen a lot of work online done by artists with raster brushes designed specifically for Pixel Persona. Ive seen people suggest using Pixel Persona to start and then finish in Designer but I’m confused how that would work if the brushes aren’t available in Designer Persona. Also I’ve asked these questions to others and the answer seems to be to vectorize in Photoshop which seems to defeat the purpose of using Affinity

Yeah, I never get why folk use Affinity Designer for raster effects… when you could use a dedicated piece of raster software like Affinity Photo, Procreate, or Photoshop. I pretty much use Designer exclusively for vector artwork. In the past I’ve hopped between Illustrator and Photoshop to achieve certain effects I just couldn’t do in Illustrator alone… so I get why someone might prefer to do the majority of their work in a vector programme, but not have to paste/ import into another, and hope it all ‘sticks’ together.

Raster brushes are interchangeable between Designer and Photo. Designer and Photo use exactly the same file format so the files are interchangeable between the two apps (3 if you count Publisher, which is not yet available on iPad but also uses same file format).

M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB   lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
Affinity Photo 1.10.5 Affinity Design 1.10.5
Affinity Publisher 2, Affinity Designer 2, Affinity Photo 2 and betas.
