I'm a beginner with Affinity—I need to print books privately and I'd like them to look nice.

I laid out my book (6" x 9") and am pleased with how it looks, but I wasn't expecting the printer to want bleed, so the dimensions were wrong. I added .125 in. bleed on all sides in Document Setup, but I haven't worked with bleed before and I just want to make sure I've done it right. Right now, looking at a spread (left and right pages), the bleed goes around the 12" x 9" rectangle (see attached image). Is this correct? Or should there also be bleed separating the two pages in the spread?

TL;DR: Are the bleeds in the attached image where they're supposed to be?

Hi Faustus,

It looks correct as far as Im concerned however this is likely more question for your printers as I'm not sure exactly what specifications they have given you. If they have asked for your document in facing pages format (the way it is in your screenshot) then they shouldn't be expecting any bleed between the pages themselves.

Thanks

Most printers will expect bleed on all sides, but it won't be visible in the APub document when looking at the pages side by side (but it's not  a problem).

You'll be able to check it opening the PDF, and looking at the pages, where you'll see it and the crop marks or other options the printer asked for.

Yes.

if your printer wants single page PDFs you can export them quite easily by choosing All Pages instead of All Spreads in the Export window. The Bleed will be all around  on those single pages as well.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Most printers will do the imposition themselves, so they’ll want single pages rather than facing-page spreads, but you should ask them instead of making assumptions.

Thanks, everybody!

I'm using Lulu.com, and they ask for single pages, so I'll be sending them that way, but if exporting as single pages puts the bleed all around the pages, then everything is fine!

Thanks, everybody, for your help.
