AUDIBERT Christian Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Since the last update, I have lost all of the tools as well as the window on the right which allows all actions. I have recovered the tools, but I do not know how to recover this window which is essential for the software to function. I never saved my artboard because I was using the default functions. Even if I try to restore the factory defaults, nothing can be done. I uninstalled, reinstalled an older version, nothing to do. Can anyone help me ? Quote
Dan C Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Hi @AUDIBERT Christian, Welcome to the Affinity Forums Sorry to hear you're having trouble here! Could you please provide a screenshot showing the full Affinity application currently - so I can better understand the exact panels etc you are missing? Many thanks in advance! Quote
R C-R Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 If you open the View > Studio submenu, near the bottom of its options is "Hide Studio" ticked? If so, does unticking it show the panels? Also, on the same submenu, there may be items to show the left or right studio. Check them as well. iSprocket Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Yes—I seem to be losing the Studio panels when I go to open a project I was working on the day before. In my case it is Affinity Photo. I looked all through the Preferences and various menu options to find if some setting may be causing these to not open. When I look at View > Studio all my selections are unchecked!! What's happening? Quote

This would cause none of them to appear in the UI, so what happens if you check a few of them? Yesterday, I had a number of items checked off and they were available all day. Then I saved everything in the file, quite the program, and when I opened it up this morning—no Studio panel, and when I looked under View, nothing was checked off. That said . . . once I have created a studio panel, would I be best to save it as a 'Studio Preset' and give it a name? (I've actually done that now). What do you think? Quote

That's up to you but it would certainly make things easier if for some strange reason every studio panel somehow gets turned off. I don't understand why that would be easier. Easier would be they stay put. Logically, being identified with a project/file and being re-opened with the corresponding file would make sense. Given one may have a number of files that have different needs, switching to the appropriate Studio panel would be helpful (hence presets). I'm not normally a betting person, but I'll lay you odds 10-1 that's what I've run into here. If I'm wrong, I'll be back. Quote

That's how it works for me -- no panel closes unless I do something that causes that, like switching to a different Studio preset or closing the panel with its close button. 4 minutes ago, iSprocket said: Given one may have a number of files that have different needs, switching to the appropriate Studio panel would be helpful (hence presets). The layout of the Studio panels, including which ones are open, which are combined with others in tabbed groups, & which are floating vs. docked, is completely independent of what (if any) files are open in the app. Besides, there is no way for the app to know what the user intends to do with an open file. Thanks for that. I'm starting to think this is a PEBKAC error. I possibly muddled where I shouldn't have (still getting used to the myriad of settings while digging through the workbook). I opened said file this morning and everything was in place—as expected. From my perspective, I think we can close this file, and I THANK YOU again for your input. I really appreciate it.
