Hi.

I bought Affinity Photo through Microsoft and have had problems sending photos from Lightroom after each new release.  I have used a workaround but am not keen on changing MS folder & file ownership.

I want to put Affinity Photo on a new computer but do not want to use the "free" download from Microsoft.  Hence, I am thinking of buying another copy and installing it "normally" and have some questions:  1) Can I do that using my current login here?  2) Are there any concerns or issues I should be aware of having 2 different sources for of the same product?  3) Do you guys have any sales coming up or annual sales I can wait for?  🙂

Thanks for any help / direction!

Jack

Note . . . I apologize if you received multiple versions of this.  I thought I was signed in and tried to send it several times before realizing I wasn't.

  1. Your login here (the forums) has no relation to your license and usage of the Affinity applications. It is entirely separate from any Affinity Store account you may have, and if you don't have an Affinity Store account already the Store will create one for you during the purchase process. (If you do have an account at the Store already, from prior downloads of free Store content or from registering your Microsoft Store application with Serif at version 1.9 or later, you should use that account when making the purchase.)
  2. There should be no problem, other than potential confusion on your part. But, of course, you could consider uninstalling your Microsoft Store version once you've purchased from Serif, and use the newly purchased application on all your Windows computers.
  3. They do not announce sales, but to make sure you don't miss one you could sign up for their newsletter: https://affinity.serif.com/newsletter/
(If I had to guess, I would guess the next sale would be around Black Friday.)

walt.farrell,

Thank you for your reply.

I was logged into Affinity and got to the forum using their menu system.  Frankly, I had no idea the forums were not a direct part of Serif / Affinity proper. Now I know why my message didn't go through until I logged on again (to the forum).  I still don't understand their arrangement with Microsoft as they show no reference to my Affinity Photo license.  They do show other things I downloaded from the site (probably freebees).

You make a good suggestion to completely switch away from the Microsoft version on my laptop.  I was thinking of doing that before I bought the new PC, and it does make sense.  It's not so much about the amount of money; I just hate that I wasted it in the first place.

Thank you also for the link to sign up for newsletters.  I've been getting occasional emails from them so signing up may not give me anything new.  We'll see.

I can always pay full price as it's not really that expensive.  But I am not in any hurry right now, so I'll keep an eye out for sales.

Thanks again for your time and help.

Jack

Microsoft, Apple, and Serif do not share customer information, and even if they did there is no guarantee that you would use the same email address when purchasing from the different companies.

The new Registration (Account Synch) function that was introduced does allow Serif to track which machines you've used your licenses on, regardless of purchase Store, but it's optional and is only used today to simplify downloading other content from the Affinity Store.
