tribeka
Hello, can you tell me how to create such a shadow with Affinity Photo? Kind regards, Thomas
iconoclast
Hi tribeka! What do you mean with "Shadow"? The reflections in the water? For that I would make a duplicate of the layer and mirror it vertically. Then I would try out some Blend Modes (menu on the top of the Layers panel) and move the reflection layer, so that it appears as a reflection of the skyline. I would possibly also do some finetuning with the Opacity of the layer. Finally I would add a mask to the reflection layer and apply a black&white gradient to the mask to blend out the reflection a bit. Or do you mean the shadow of the photo on the background? For that I would create a rectangle with the Rectangle Tool, filled with black colour on a layer below the photo. The canvas must be increased a bit for that. Then convert the rectangle to curves and shape the form of it for your needs. Then decrease its opacity and blur it a bit, so that it gets softer edges. By the way, it's a little unusual that your sample photo has shadows on the left AND the right. For this effect, the light source must be verry close to the photo, what would result in reflections on the photo. So this is a little bit unrealistic. Hangman
Assuming you mean the shadow beneath the photo then I would duplicate the white border layer, convert it to a curve and then apply a horizontal linear grad to the new layer using a black fill, adjust the opacity values across the grad to achieve the varying shades of grey. Use the node tool to move the bottom centre of the shadow rectangle up to apply the curve effect to the bottom edge and then apply a gausian blur to the shadow layer. Finally adjust the size of the shadow layer, bring the sides in and move the layer down until it is poistioned as you want it. This should give you something like this.
