Geometry-Subtract of a square and Pie-Tool result in unwanted thin line of square

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I tried to draw a jigsaw puzzle piece. I used a square and also a 180 degree squeezed pie tool object to add and to subtract from the square. See my attached document. Adding this left pie-tool object to the square seems to be working although selecting the object still shows the 2 objects.

But when I try to subtract such a pie-tool object from the square at the top side then it is working, but the old line of the square is still visible! I would expect that this line would be gone. The objects snapped together so the coordinates should be exact. When I zoom in a lot then the wrong line remains very very small, so it looks like a rounding problem?

Why is this super thin line stil drawn?

Kind regards,

Marcel

This is happening because your pie isn't 100% horozintal, as in, the top left node is positioned at 18.718296 mm whereas the top right node is positioned at 18.718294 mm which means when you align the pie with your rectangle it isn't completely overlapping on the left edge of the rectangle, hence you see the thin line when applying the Subtract Boolean.

Two options, either convert the pie to a curve Cmd Enter and correct the top left node so it is also positioned at 18.718294 mm or aligned the pie and rectangle as is and then nudge you pie up two arrow clicks so the two shapes completely overlap at both sides before you apply the Subract Boolean.
