dieterdreist2
In the import dialogue (opening a 6-pages pdf) I am notified about fonts in the pdf that are missing on my local machine, and a list how they will be replaced. There is a checkbox "replace missing fonts" but it will replace the missing fonts anyway, regardless of the box being ticked or not. I guess the fonts are in the pdf because mac preview will show the correct file. I have attached the file. 20210917_Socrates-programma.pdf
walt.farrell
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @dieterdreist. Please tell us which application and OS you're using. Also, you have used the term "import" which often refers to File > Place and "opening" which often means File > Open, so please clarify exactly what you're doing. (Also, in Publisher we have Document > Add Pages from File.) Also, assuming you really do mean File > Open, when I test your file with Publisher, I see this: If I say to Replace the fonts, then Arial is used (as the dialog indicates by default) and when I look at text, it shows as being in Arial. With Replacement: If I say not to Replace the fonts, then the application still uses Arial to display the text. It must use something, and since I does not have your fonts it chooses Arial (as it would if I said to Replace them). However, if I look at the text, it shows the original font. The point here is that the application is making a temporary substitution: if you edit the text and resave the document, the original font will be used to display the text when the file is opened on a computer which has that font installed. If you check the ‘Replace missing fonts’ checkbox, the substitution will be permanent and the resaved document will use the substitute font instead of the original one. To clarify slightly, the field underlined in red shows the name of the font preceded by a question mark. The app can't display the actual characters of the font if the font is not installed.
