Problem to use the color picker with gradient

I am trying to use the color picker when I use the gradient tool. It deos not work. 

1) I click on the gradient and I select my first color

2) When I click on the color picker on the top right (nothing happen :-( ) > I should be able to pick a color on my design where I want. It should be the main idea of color picker no?

3) So I decide to open the color selector : again the color picker does not work. Nothing happens

Its soooooo frustated

Did I do something wrong ?

Hi Maxi0070!

It's a little bit tricky for beginners. You have to drag the circle on the right of the dropper (Pipette) symbol to the place of the image (or even the screen) where you want to pick the colour. Then release the mouse key. The circle near the dropper symbol will turn to the new colour. Then select the gradient point you want to redye and click on the circle. The gradient point will get the new colour then. The dropper symbol itself is not a button. It is only a hint that the circle is the colour picker.

I use the dropper symbol as the color picker, as it makes more sense logically to me. In truth, they're part of the same icon and it doesn't matter which you drag for picking.

Thanks a lot. I did it but in effect it makes no sense to drag this circle. How to do simple when you can do complicated ahhaah.

The color picker with the pipette & associated color well (the small round circle) is not a tool in the usual sense. It appears in many different places in the UI & is usable independently of any of the tools in the Tools panel; that is, as soon as you release the mouse button to end the drag, the UI reverts to the currently selected tool.

This means you do not have to take the extra step of changing tools to use it. 

This also means you can have an extra color well that can hold a different color from the larger wells, & simply click on it to set one of them to that color.

A bit unusual for sure, but not without its own merits.

Of course, there is also a more traditional Color Picker Tool if that is what you would prefer to use.

You can also easily pick the colour by holding the Alt-key and click on the place you want to pick the colour from.
