Boolean trouble on ipad and desktop affinity designer

Hi manfred11,

Looking at your sample 'For Real' afdesign file I can see that there are many thousands of nodes! In fact an SVG export of that file reveals there to be in the region of 150,000 nodes with the generated SVG being around 5.8million characters! (a 5.5mb file).

That sort of design isn't really ideal for vector work, and is better suited for a decent quality raster export. Is there any reason you absolutely require it to be vector?

Regarding the export errors, unfortunately you need to give us more information and files to work with.

For example can you attach a copy of the source file you're exporting from, the export settings you're using and also the resulting files you're getting. Just saying the PDF is totally messed up gives us zero information.

The SVG taking a long time to export however is unsurprising given how much vector data it is trying to calculate.

Here is the file

hi Sean

All exports were done from within affinity to svg-pdf-eps

If you try to open them in illustrator afterwards you get:

EPS:the operation cannot complete because of an unknown error

SVG: takes forever to load

PDF:opens but full of errors (you can test this easily by opening it in illustrator, assuming you still have a copy.)

if you need a screenshot of the pdf errors just let me know

thx for your time

Thanks for the files.

I've exported to SVG, EPS and PDF. Whilst the PDF does open incorrectly inside Illustrator, it does open correctly in both Inkscape, Acrobat and also the Chrome PDF viewer. The issue you're seeing is an Illustrator problem that you will have to take up with Adobe.

Regards the EPS - again this does seem to be an issue with Illustrator as the EPS imports back into Affinity without a problem.

Lastly the SVG loads quite quickly for me in both Inkscape and Chrome (seconds), but did cause Illustrator to hang. Again that is not something we can fix.

Given the complexity of your document (Around 600,000 nodes) it will always generate huge files (26mb SVG and 33mb EPS files) unfortunately that isn't something we can control, and is something you need to be aware of with your designs - especially when you want to try and add that much 'texture' in vector.
