A_B_C
Hi there, I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been that way before: when you draw a shape with one of the shape tools, for instance, with the rectangle tool, the newly created shape isn’t selected after you lift the mouse button. This is a productivity impairment. For what would you like to do after having drawn a shape? — Right! You want to style it. So it should be selected automatically. Please, if that’s by design: could you please change it? 🙂 Thank you, Alex Deselected.mov
walt.farrell
I think that Context Toolbar option may have come with 1.9. A_B_C
Oh my goodness, Walt! Thank you so much. Now I am feeling embarrassed, and rightly so. 😳
walt.farrell
You're welcome. No need to feel embarrassed, as we've all probably missed things; I know that I certainly have A_B_C 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.

I think its function would be more obvious if it was named "Keep object selected," or even just "Keep selected." Maybe it is just me, but when I first saw that option I wondered what "new object' it referred to. MikeTO
Why would you want to create an object and not have it selected after creation? I'd never noticed this feature until now, it seems rather unusual. I'm not sure I remember this correctly but I think some users were asking for this because they were having problems creating new objects when they wanted to start dragging out the next shape object from anywhere on the just-created object's bounding box. When the first object remains selected you can't do that because placing the pointer over or near the edges or control handles of its bounding box activates one of the transform functions (move, rescale, rotate).
