Alexis Trappist
Hi. I'm using the trial version of DESIGNER. I imported a pdf with bloc text option. Some texts appear WITHOUT the spaces between the words ! for example see the ligne underligned in red. There are no spaces between the words eventhough on the sceen you can detect a space between substituer and à for exemple or à and une
Staff Patrick Connor Posted August 28, 2021 Staff Share Posted August 28, 2021 @Alexis Trappist Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums PDF is not a good interchange format and often each word is individually added by the application, not output as a line, and there aren't any sentences or paragraphs as such. Consequently the import process has to guess what words and characters in the PDF file are (and aren't) part of the same word/sentence. This isn't a straight forward problem programmatically. What seems to have happened is that the calculations have decided that it's one long word with variable inter-character spacing, rather than spaces between the words. I think there's an import option in preferences about preferring fidelity that may help. (Not at my computer, can anyone help here) Another reason may be that the font in the PDF has been substituted, and the new font has different inter-character spacing which can make calculations about spaces harder. Without your file it's not possible to be precise, but you may not be able to get a better version at the moment. Can you explain why you haven't attached the file to see if others can better advise you? Wosven
@Alexis Trappist, Try first to select all the text, and in the character panel, set Kerning and Tracking to 0 (values can be negative by error). Essayez de sélectionner tout le texte et dans le Panneau Caractères, de mettre 0 comme valeur pour le Crénage et l'Interlettrage (qui peuvent être négatives par erreur). PS. L'abréviation correcte est 2e ("e" en exposant).
Alexis Trappist
Thanks Wosven. Just tried that but it does not work. I appreciated the French translation for Kerning and Tracking ! 🤤

Alexis Trappist
Patrick Thanks so much for such a prompt answer. I forgot to upload the file so here it is I have asked the creator of this file to send me the original AI document. Question : can I importa an AI document into Affinity PUBLISHER ? My graphiste works with AI to make our packaging (boxes, stickers etc). So what is better ? Designer ? or Publisher ? Many thanks PackagingActiPro2021.pdf
Alexis Trappist
I just tried the same thing with the origin AI file but the result is the same. IF needed I can attach it but it is 90 Mo. So I'm a little disappointed with DESIGNER. SHould I try PUBLISHER ?
Wosven
Yes, it looks like a bug with Affinity apps: Pasting from a PDF viewer in a text editor give all the spaces. Same when opening the file with Inkscape. Affinity apps don't find the spaces:
Staff Sean P Posted September 6, 2021 Staff Share Posted September 6, 2021 Hi Alexis, Thanks for the PDF - I can reproduce that here and will get it passed on to development.
