Unable to install updates, Apps no longer working!

Recommended Posts

Since a recent Windows Update (last Windows 10 release) and subsequent upgrade to Windows 11 none of my Affinity Apps that I purchased and downloaded directly from Serif is working anymore. When trying to install the latest version it always gives me an error message "unable to remove older version of Affinity XXX "Photo, Designer, Publisher").

However, I removed the old versions of the Affinity Apps manually and cannot find any remnants on my harddrive.

None of the apps appear in my app list (only the .exe files in my downloads) e. g. affinity-photo-1.10.0.exe.

In my desperation I bought Affinity Designer from the Windows Store in order to finish a project before deadline.

It surprisingly ran without any problem.

Do I have to buy all three Apps (from the Windows Store) again in order to have my old workflow back?

What with the money I already spent?

Please resolve the issue ASAP !!!

You might need to run Microsoft's Uninstall Troubleshooter: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d

You may also need to right-click on the installer .exe file and choose Run as Administrator.

My genuine sympathy.  I have suffered about 5 major dodgy Win 10 updates this year that have caused me a lot of grief.  They took hours to sort out but I did get there in the end.  There is a specific reason why I had problems that others didn't suffer, but they should not have arisen with a properly constructed update.

I suggest you are best advised to go the the Microsoft support forum and post your predicament there.  There are some genuinely knowledgeable people on that forum who will help with a pretty drastic problem like yours.  The new app will load and run; your problem is the log of preexisting programs has not made it through to Win11

I always wait for quite a long time before installing major upgrades for exactly this sort of reason.

Hope it is sorted out shortly.

This helped, I downloaded the "MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta" from your link, selected all Affinity Apps that were shown and reinstalled the updated versions. Thank you so much! I have been looking for a solution like this for months, this one finally worked !
