Berndpu Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 I have a Adobe Stock File (xxxx.ai) that i tried to open (for modification) in Affinity. When i open it, most of the graphics look distorted and pixelated. The structure of the document seems off (groups and pictures and curves look strange) and dont seem to be correct. This is how the File should look like: Is this something i am doing wrong when opening the file or is this a limitation of Affinity or is it a problem/bug/issue with Affinity that needs to be fixed? Staff MEB Posted August 20, 2021 Staff Posted August 20, 2021 Hi @Berndpu, Welcome to Affinity Forums Affinity apps are only able to read/load the PDF stream contained within the Ai file (when it's included with it). All other data is proprietary. This means we are only able to import what we support/is included in the PDF stream - you won't get a fully editable file as if it was opened in Illustrator - for example any gradient meshes will be lost on import as we don't support them. Do you mind uploading/sharing the file with us to be inspected/looked at? I will provide an upload link for you to keep the file private if you don't mind. Just let me know. Thank you. Thank you very much for the explanation. (any chance that one day we will be able to open all .ai data?) Would be happy to upload the file. Just let me know where. Quote
Staff MEB Posted August 20, 2021 Staff Posted August 20, 2021 Hi @Berndpu, Unfortunately AI is a proprietary/closed format. Only Adobe knows its full specs. The only way we could get there eventually is by reverse engineering the format which is a tedious/complicated process and Adobe can always change it along the way - it doesn't worth it. It's very unlikely we will be able to support it, sorry. Here's an upload link you can use to send us the file. Thank you for your support. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
