I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish, inpainting several layers at once is not something I've ever seen discussed, but while you're waiting for that change, you might consider one of these alternatives:

  1. Set the Inpainting Brush to Current Layer and Below in the Context Toolbar. This won't do quite what you're asking for, but it may be closer in some cases.
    or
  2. Merge the layers, and Inpaint that merged layer.
    or
  3. Add a Pixel layer above the selected layers, and use the Inpainting brush on that, again with it set to Current Layer and Below. This has the advantage of being non-destructive.

Hello,

When I use inpaint brush on several layers - every layer inpaints different information.

Please make inpaint brush work consistently on multiple selected layers!

I asked this for several years too then realized it would never happen probably.              Such a functionality exists in Adobe  Sampler to an extent   and in full capacity in  Unity Art engine although .

Can one of you give an example of what exactly it is you want and what the output would be

screenshots or sample files would be nice

If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Imagine you have a document when one layer represent  RGB color information   aka   photo.   Next layer represent depth as a grayscale image , next one  is  roughness , also a kind  of grayscale image representing   materials  reflective properties in that image ,  and maybe another RGB layer representing  normals, so called normal map  representing how subjects surface in that original image /photo  deviates  from an image/ frame plane in 3d space.

It would be several  layers  with totally different pixel content but  at the same time  absolutely related  to each other.

Now you want  to inpaint something.   AP would do such inpaint totally different way   in each of those layers   copypasting content from totally different areas in each of the layers.   There is no way to make it in sync at every of them  that renders the whole idea of inpainting  basically useless for any  work related to computer graphics.

ps.   Those extra image info/layers are typical for  computer generated images  or images  necessary to produce  computer graphics  but even in strictly photo field  cameras , phone cameras specifically, started to produce extra info like depth.   So doing inpaint in sync at every layer would  bring AP ahead of competition.

Yes, Kirk is right. Here is an example, in the first video I use stamp tool to remove some text. And all layers are remain consistent.

But as you can see in the inpaint video layers aren't correlated to each other anymore. stamp.mp4

Yes, this would be cool... And same request for multi-selection support in Smudge brush and in Mix brush - would be great if this tools get used to pixels from the same layer tool is applied. Like recording macro with smudge/mix brush on single layer and replay on others

btw, smudge brush can not be recorded in macro - long-standing bug - but anyway, to illustrate an idea
