xkwzt Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 I have the latest version of Affinity Photo now. I have lost multiple attempts at photomanips at this point and am not entirely sure what is going on. Before downloading new version: 1. Seven times in a row: Opened up a New Document, pasted an image into it, and put another new image underneath it, and started erasing the background of the top layer. A few minutes in (3 or so), Affinity would freeze up and show "Not Responding" on the top while using the eraser. I found that saving the image first, then opening it from Affinity allowed me to do my project with no freezing, compared to pasting an image from the Internet onto a New Document. 2. I saved an image to do some touching up. It worked. Then, I duplicated that layer, went to Diffuse Glow and changed some of the settings, and it didn't do anything. I zoomed out and saw the diffuse glow was only in a section within the image. I clicked the image and "Not Responding" came up. https://i.postimg.cc/4yD8f8KF/afin-freez.png ........................ At first, I thought it was freezing if I opened a blank New Document and then brought an image from the Internet into it by copy/paste. So, I started saving all images first and then opening them up from Affinity, which allowed me to create a whole banner with no hiccups a couple of weeks ago. Today I saved an image and cloned some stuff out. Then, I saved another image to put the cloned pic on top of it, and took the pointer tool to rotate it a bit. After about 30 seconds of rotating it, Affinity freezes. I lost my cloned pic (forgot to save I guess). I tried recreating this and past freezes not related to the rotating tool. #1: Bear/sunset - Took a bear pic from Pixabay (c/p directly into Affinity without saving the pic). - Used brush tool to change the coloring. - From Affinity, opened a sunset image I had saved on my computer. - c/p'd the bear onto the sunset image onto a new pixel layer. - Used pointer tool to rotate, and, again, within about 30 seconds, Affinity freezes. At the time of after writing this, it is still "not responding" so it doesn't work itself out. https://i.postimg.cc/qBSntHzF/Affinity-freeze-bear.png #2: Xkwzt/lake - Opened New Document - Did text - c/p'd fireworks pic from Internet straight onto Affinity without saving it first - Put it into the text, grouped, and rasterized the whole thing. - Opened saved lake picture from Affinity. - c/p'd text onto lake on new pixel layer. - Grabbed cloud from Pixabay, didn't save, put directly into Affinity - Used eraser and changed layer effects - All was fine until I used the rotating tool and in 3 seconds it froze https://i.postimg.cc/9fYsxj4X/xkw-freeze.png #3: White dog - Opened New Document - c/p 3 backgrounds in and 2 dogs - used pointer tool to resize dogs - grabbed eraser and started erasing bg from white dog - about 3 minutes into the erasing of the dog it freezes https://i.postimg.cc/G2Hw952c/whitedog-freeze.png I have nothing playing or downloading that would lower memory. . . After I bought Affinity I used the Photo program quite a few times, but have taken a recent break of a few months' time. The first time trying to create a banner where it froze (7 times in a row, new documents) was after at least 3 months of not using the program and was a previous version, so I downloaded the newest version and it seems to do a similar thing, just this time freezes even with pics saved to my computer and/or copy/pasted from Affinity into another document. I've used it with my Intuos tablet, but at this time it is not plugged in. p.s. i use royalty free or creative commons pics only Windows 10, no external drives or monitors, USB mouse and keyboard, headphones in Quote
RichardMH Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Place to start is to turn off OpenCL acceleration if it is on. Edit->Preferences->Performance. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted August 24, 2021 Staff Posted August 24, 2021 Hi @xkwzt, Sorry for the delayed reply. When it hangs, can you got o Task Manager > Rightclick on the Affinity Photo process > Create dump file and attach the dmp here? Quote
