PeteMacca Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Hey devs..., ever since AP introduced Hardware Acceleration, I've been able to run HA + Photo v1.92 without a problem on my integrated CPU/GPU. But it crashes at the slightest chance with v1.10 when HA is enabled. For example: Open a 2 MB jpg >> add Brightness/Contrast adjustment >> move slider >> crash. Open a 2 MB jpg >> draw a shape with any of the Marquee Tools >> drag shape into position >> crash. And yes, I have the latest graphics driver from Intel. OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Version: 10.0.19043 Build 19043 (21H1) Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10510U CPU @ 1.80GHz Installed Physical Memory (RAM): 16.00 GB Adapter Description: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 Adapter RAM: 1.00 GB Driver Version: 30.0.100.9805 Driver Date: 23/07/2021 So I've rolled back to v1.92, enabled HA, and will wait for Affinity to work out kinks. RichardMH Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Might help them if you put up the crash reports. Should be in %APPDATA%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports PeteMacca 1 Quote

Staff Chris B Posted August 19, 2021 Staff Posted August 19, 2021 Hey PeteMacca, Unfortunately I can't see anything useful in that crash report. Can you try installing the beta and see if that crashes and then attach a new crash report? This beta is older than the retail 1.10 but it might give me some additional info in a crash report. PeteMacca Posted August 19, 2021 Author Posted August 19, 2021 Hey Chris B, This is getting a little weird. I ran beta 1.10..., and it didn't crash. I thought it was going to crash, because it showed the same weird effect with the sliders that retail 1.10 showed just prior to crashing. But beta 1.10 didn't crash. Here's what beta's slider looks like... Quote

Staff Chris B Posted August 20, 2021 Staff Posted August 20, 2021 Thanks for confirming. I'm going to check with some colleagues - I assume OpenCL is on? Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
PeteMacca Posted August 20, 2021 Author Posted August 20, 2021 Yes, OpenCL is on with beta 1.10. Quote
PeteMacca Posted August 20, 2021 Author Posted August 20, 2021 I rolled back the Intel graphics driver, from 30.someting to 27.something, and it has fixed the glitchy sliders of beta 1.10 with OpenCL, and (so far) no crashes either. I will continue to test it, and retry with retail 1.10. Quote
PeteMacca Posted August 21, 2021 Author Posted August 21, 2021 More confusing results (at least to me). I re-installed retail 1.10, OpenCL set to on, and the older 27.something GPU driver. It DID crash while dragging a shape drawn by the Marquee Tool. Unfortunately, no crash report was generated. It DIDN'T crash while adjusting the Brightness/Contrast slider, but the slider did briefly get glitchy, then behaved normally. Meanwhile..., with beta 1.10, OpenCL set to on, and the older 27.something GPU driver, everything is going along really well (no crash, no glitchy sliders). Quote
Staff Chris B Posted August 23, 2021 Staff Posted August 23, 2021 Thanks for the update. I disabled my dGPU on my personal machine and installed the newest driver and could not see the glitchy slider and this was in the retail build. I'll try the older driver as well. I'd be interested to know if that glitchy slider happens every time for you. Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
PeteMacca Posted August 25, 2021 Author Posted August 25, 2021 Hi @Chris B, I have just tried the latest retail (1.10.1.1142) with OpenCL enabled, and the older Intel UHD 620 driver, version 27.xxx. The good news was that the sliders behaved normally. The bad news was that the marquee tool caused a crash while dragging the shape. No crash file was created, but I recorded a brief video of when things went bad. Affinity Photo 2021-08-26 06-21-02.mp4 Quote
PeteMacca Posted August 26, 2021 Author Posted August 26, 2021 After having trouble with the latest retail version (1.10.1.1142) and OpenCL, I reinstalled the last stable version for me (1.9.2) that played nice with OpenCL. But it crashed as well when using the Patch tool. So it turns out that 1.9.2 wasn't stable for me after all. It just took me longer to stumble across something to break it. Now I'm back with 1.10.1.1142 and OpenCL is turned OFF..., and life is starting to look a little better. Chris B 1 Quote
