The SetupUI.log file should have information that is more relevant.

I agree Walt, but that is the entire content of the setupui log file, which, to me, gives nothing away.

My dad tried updating from 1.9.2but then 1.9.2 wouldn't run. I uninstalled 1.9.2 did a reg cleanup and tried installing but it goes nowhere and leaves what I have posted as the contents of the setup log file.

Are you saying there was no SetupUI.log file?

No, there is a setupui log file I just missed the ui part out of the name, I'm not at my dads now but but I can upload the setup log file tomorrow but all you will see is the contents I've posted. Basically, when I click on the installer exe either by double clicking or right-click and selecting run as admin, the installer appears to start briefly; no screen of any kind from AP but the windows dialogue for admin acceptance pops up, I click yes then nothing happens, well other than it generates the setupui log and the afore mentioned contents above.

  • I've run a sfc /scannow
  • dism /online /clean-image /restorehealth
  • checked for updates
  • disabled anti virus
  • ...and a myriad of other checks all to make sure the system is clean.

This only happens with Affinity Photo installer, registry has nothing from Serif or Affinity Photo.

download to a more meaningful place (like the downloads dir for example).

Right click the installer -> run as administrator

What happens then?

It's possible that this code will give a hint to Affinity' staff to help you, since it seems:

The error codes numbered greater than 2000 are internal errors and do not have authored strings, but these can occur if the installation package has been incorrectly authored.

[edit]And there's even less codes for .exe files https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/msi/error-codes [/edit]

Cheers for the info, the installer was downloaded from his account at Affinity so hopefully we'll get some movement on this soon. in the meantime I continue checking a few things and see if procviewer can yield some insight.

There should be two files, Setup.log and SetupUI.log. I think you did upload Setup.log, as you said, but usually SetupUI.log is the more interesting one.
