Hi,

Over the weekend I tried to recreate my thumbnail poster into a Data Variable Template using a combination of Data Merge Layout tool and variable fields (for labels and header). Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to get it to function correctly.

Not sure whether this is an issue or the template is set up incorrectly...ideas welcome!

So using this (Project Brush Thumbnail Template) as a template
A. Set variables using simple .CSV file containing images and text.
B. I replaced the layout with 4 sequenced Data Containers. Settings {col=04; record offset=0; record advance=1}
Had to do this as the gutter is universal ...as in you cannot set separate values to vertical and horizontal sizes
C. In each Data Cell I set Image box without rotation and added a Label variable (varHeader)
D. At base of page set a Poster Title with single variable {varTitle}

NO Masters and and 2 styles for the text variables

Which works sort of....!

Run the Data Management Tool to generate content {Separate file} and I can get the Data Containers to populate the images but the varTitle fails to display every time thought normal processing.

When I remove the Data Containers from the page the title field will populate!...It also populates when I run single values in the Preview Data in the Data Management Tool.

NB: Checks
1. CSV spaces
2. Style Config
3. Leading settings
4. Colour

Replaced AD files with .jpg and undated CSV accordingly but still get same results!
Is there an issue mixing field variables and Data Tables on the same page?

I can supply the .jpg file

Updated process

Tried a little experiment with this wanted to see whether worked without the data tool container...
1. Returned to original file. (No data containers just images)
2. Swapped images for Image variable and saved file usng .jpg and truncated data csv

Not able to complete as AP crashed!

Checked Performance and Memory running at 94% (24GB)..had a lot of trouble escaping the app...

AP could not complete the Date Generation task

Hi @StuartRc

Can you attach the afpub, images and CSV data, along with a screen recording of your workflow so we ca try and replicate it here?

Sure no  problem...It is a large folder set (Still contains variations of the data images/Ad files) Could I get a dropbox link?

Ok I have added a couple of videos to the thread
Unfortunately, This was all sort of working previously but with the latest release I do not seem to be able to complete the tasks.
I added Processes and State of Graphics card as display to video while waiting for the data to process.. or not!
Had to reboot PC after this process as was almost non functional

Sorry so long I haven't edited these.. but you can scrub through:)

The original AD files x20 accumulate to 1.1GB. Even with complex large files the process used to perform much better. I swopped out the AD files for JPG (much smaller) to see if was causing issues...but as you can see...

Hi

There you go.

I have uploaded the files and related files that were shown in the 2 videos.
Should come with a warning!:). Running the Data Tool Generation button uses all the memory! had to restart to escape...

Notes
I was just using the file for testing Publisher features..it can be broken!
I have other files that I tested. The original was extremely large 1.1 gB for  the AD collected files (400mm x 400mm Multi layers). Strangely it worked in versions released prior to this one. It is the same file I was having issues with testing the Packaging options (here)..Luckily I have not seen this again yet!. In 1.9.2.1035 it fails to package and crashes!

Running sample data (xx records) populates but is slow..much faster on previous release..

I added all three csv files...the jpg one was truncated to see if there was an issue with unpopulated variable data.
Not 100% space checked! (seen the report on spaces causing crashes!)

Have fun!:)

If you need anything else let me know...

The problem with your setup is that you have 21 nodes (the 5 rows x 4 columns grid) + the last <varTitle> node, but only 20 records. So when you data merge, it cycles through them all, and there's no record to fill up the <varTitle> node. So it is expected to be blank.

As for the actual merge, I'm not sure what's going on. I checked it on a VM with 2 cores and 4GB ram and it took less than 1min to generate it. Which sounds about right.

Many thanks!...I dropped down the variable content onto the next row...completed in about 30 secs for me...I am smiling. I was a bit reluctant to try it again!:)
Tried it in both active and beta...I am surprised that this was causing such a stall in the process!
