When I open files from version 1.93 in the new update of Affinity Publisher (1.10), manual character spacing changes and new wrapping occurs. This affects all work and projects from older versions. This is a very extensive problem that should be fixed urgently. I had to reactivate the old version (no problem thanks to backup).

This is unfortunately to be expected in certain circumstances. It was discovered that 1.9 (and possibly earlier) was erroneously ignoring the minimum letter spacing setting (in justification), and the 1.9.4 beta (later rebranded as 1.10) fixed that issue. That setting directly affects the flow of text, so fixing it necessarily means that documents that had negative letter spacing applied in 1.9 (where the setting was ignored) will now flow differently now that the setting is properly applied.

There may be other issues that were fixed that I am forgetting. However, I suggest that you may be able to get the text to flow in 1.10 as it did formerly if you set all text with less than 0% minimum letter spacing to 0%.

For new projects, this is not a problem. For my magazine layouts I use a lot of saved data. This means you can't trust the new version and you have to check and correct line by line. I have been working with QuarkXpress and InDesign for many years, there such problems are unknown. It is good to see a better import function for PDF files from advertisers. I have to stay with the old version until this is fixed.

I think the point is that it is now fixed. The value you entered into minimum character spacing in 1.9 was ignored. The fix was that it's no longer ignored so your layout has indeed changed, but it's now respecting the value you entered just like XPress and InDesign.

Just change the minimum character spacing to 0 and it should look like 1.9 again.
